You make a good point, I almost forget the 13 inch M4 is thinner than my pencil, so thin and light with such a bright screen. The best part for me has to be that the screen doesn’t overheat, even while charging. That helps a lot while I’m teaching.

This video perfectly captures what is wrong with how techtube covers the iPad. Also having double tap with haptics and squeezing has made a huge difference to me for drawing. I think it would make a big difference for anyone who uses the pencil as a primary input because now you have effectively two different buttons
@SlatePadАй бұрын
That’s a good way of looking at the pencil interactions. I wish I was more of an artist to understand this perspective a bit more.

@@SlatePad yeah in Procreate I use the squeeze gesture to switch between the eraser and brush tools and double tap to activate the quick menu

I upgraded from the M2 for this very reason. No regrets though! The other smaller upgrades added up to a worthy upgrade for me.
@chfgnАй бұрын
I'm curious about the squeeze gesture but I'm skeptical because the double tap on the M1 pencil was sadly unusable for me. I eventually had to disable it because it triggered accidentally quite a bit, but I couldn't make it happen on purpose reliably when I wanted to.
@chidorirasenganzАй бұрын
@@chfgn Yeah I prefer squeeze but having both is ideal for me. Having the haptic vibrations go off when do the gestures makes a big difference for me

The M4 brings a few things - way better energy use, and incredibly fast AI and the ability to do professional workflows. It’s amazing to be able to leave my macbook pro at home, use Final Cut Pro for iPad to both edit the videos I take while on vacation, as well as use multi camera recording. I’m an artist as well, and the Apple Pencil Pro and my nano textured iPad Pro are incredible to draw with. To answer the question on why both double tap and squeeze? One reason is backwards compatibility for people whose muscle memory already has double tap in it. The main reason, though, is because people like artists for whom their use is Pencil-centric. The more options we have, the better. Some things need the multi-select capability of Squeeze. Others, like switching between brush and eraser, are toggles, and more efficient to do with a quick double-tap.

Nicely said. It’s refreshing to see a real iPad Pro user who is iPad Positive. My personal biggest wish for iPadOS is system wide audio input/output control. That said, I don’t want MacOS to replace iPadOS, I just want Apple to put some more oomph into improving and refining iPadOS.

The ipad pro is so close to perfect for me. Im a college student, I have a mac but barely need it, and much prefer using the ipad with how nice it is, but its a real shame that the experience with microsoft office isnt great and that you cant download desktop apps, and as Much as it’s improved the multitasking isn’t as good

I don’t know what it would take for Microsoft to improve Office on iPadOS, but I feel like that would enable a lot of more people to use an iPad as a primary device.

Great video on the iPad. I’m glad someone finally looked at the iPad “as and iPad”, instead of complaining about it not being a Mac. It’s gotten so bad that iPad OS is being criticized because it HAS the same features as iOS. I use the iPad to try cases, keep track of my time, prepare for client meetings, marking up PDFs, and drafting 50 page briefs. I kills it every step of the way. The one thing that most people don’t get is that for people like me who have ADHD, multitasking is a bug, not a feature and I am never as productive on my Mac as I am on my iPad. Keep the videos coming, I’m definitely gonna sub.

I think the problem is caused by Apple making the iPad more expensive than a laptop. When it was half the price of a laptop it was considered the companion device it always was supposed to be. They should have improved everything EXCEPT the processor to keep it at a lower price, and no tech youtuber would complain.
@SlatePadАй бұрын
I wonder if adding “Pro” to the product name is what gets people so upset. Since I’ve been following Apple, Pro has always meant “best hardware”, but for others it means a lot more. And I agree, the pricing on the Pro can be confusing when looking at Apple’s entire product line. I’m glad there are so many other iPad choices at different price points under the Pro.
@jimscardАй бұрын
@@SlatePadIt’s called a “Pro” because you can do professional workflows on it - same reason Final Cut Pro has “Pro” in its name - which, along with Logic Pro for iPad, are examples of how the m4 and high speed memory in my iPad Pro. The thinness of the iPad Pro, while making a nice sounding marketing point, is really there for technical reasons - thin dissipates heat faster.
@manart6506Ай бұрын
@@jimscardI think Pro mostly means the one with more positive features… like “Cons” versus “Pros”… pro is like saying “Plus” but Plus is used for size. Pro is like “the one that has the most and better features”… as the “Air” products aren’t about “less heavy”… Air is “better than basic but less than Pro”.

Loving that youtube is trying to surface small creators now. I agree the iPad pro is a great device and loved the points on what "mainstream" tech media talked about. I do wish though that "clamshell" mode was more better on the ipad. I think stage manage is neat to have for my parents. However, i just would like slightly more control over windows and passing between them. there is a lot of bugs there. However, it is a very versatile device. I also would note that its great, but Apple still treats it as a 2nd class citizen sometimes. Where is apple watch support? where is diversification (ipad ultra?twin usb c thunderbolt with 32gb of ram) and etc.
@SlatePadАй бұрын
Apple Watch, yes! It’s bugged me for years that iPad and watch have almost no connection. It’s kinda crazy that’s still a problem all these years later. I also agree about Apple treating the iPad as a second class citizen. It seems like even as big as they are, they can only focus on a couple product lines at a time, and everything else kinda suffers.
@jon5161Ай бұрын
Great video, Apple needs to fix the bugs and improve stage manager in my opinion. They should’ve never advertised the iPad as being a laptop replacement. Then nobody probably would’ve said anything. I love my M4 for what it is though.

You’re right. if you can watch a video, listen to music, watch KZfaq, watch TV on it, watch a movie on it, send an email on it, a document on it, edit a video, produce music, make a phone call, read a book, play a game,…. What the hell are people complaining about? … i’ll put a challenge out there. Buy one and do all that for two weeks and tell me you needed it for something else.!
@jon5161Ай бұрын
People just want Apple to improve on stage manager and multi-tasking. Apple really shot themselves in the foot when they tried to advertise the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement. That’s why people are fired up. The iPad Pro also costs a little more than a MacBook in a similar configuration. I’m happy with my iPad though. It does everything I want it. I just wish Apple would fix the bugs and improve stage manager. I don’t need Apple to run MacOS on it.

I'm an M1 iPad Pro user and I'm not going to upgrade until they at least double the ram. Mine is constantly shutting down apps that I'm still in the middle of using. This is the biggest thing holding the iPad back from being a "real" computer. The UI is fine, I just need it to stop closing stuff without my permission. It's kind of absurd that the most powerful mobile computer in the world can't reliably switch between 3 or 4 mobile apps without losing your work. iOS's abysmal memory management is the thing that keeps driving me back to Mac and Windows even for simple things that iPad is otherwise pretty good at. Every time I start getting in the flow and working "the iPad way" I'll find myself switching back to an app that's sitting on the landing page with my in-progress work lost forever, or a Safari tab that's refreshing from scratch and losing my place. It's crazy to me that anyone finds this level of unreliability acceptable in a $1000+ computer.

I do know what you mean. Without naming names, there are some apps that seem to get more aggressively backgrounded and don’t reload as smoothly as others. And that is frustrating.

Do you ever bring out the iPad or carry it around the house or use it on the bed? Does the 13 get unwieldy?
@SlatePadАй бұрын
When I bring it out with me, it’s usually in a bag, often by itself. It only gets unwieldy when I don’t have two hands to use it. To be fair, every iPad that’s not the Mini has that problem. The 13 inch being so much lighter has made maybe the biggest difference to my use than anything.
