My main gripe with GarageBand is when you're looking in the loop library picking a sound and auditioning it. And then if you're doing something on the main screen the loop library screen disappears then you have to go back and click on the loop library screen again and have to find the loop that you are already auditioning in the first place. Which is really a pain it's not like that on GarageBand MacBook pro, but on iOS I hate it!

Thanks for this. Would you consider doing a video on using BeatMaker 3 with iOS 15? I’m searching on KZfaq, google, Intua, Discord and only get smatterings of info on how BM3 is working with iOS 15 Need to see if I’ll kill BM3 before I make the switch! Thanks again for the great videos.

This is a dope update I just upgraded my iPad, I even watched a couple of your videos before I did for some suggestions. The performance is really stepped up over the years it has been an amazing lag free experience me. Transferring files is what worries me the most since I know it's not a simple process when you join the iDevice universe, so yeah dope update indeed!!!

👍🏽 Transferring files via an external drive or airdropping should be a piece of cake on any iPad that has a usb-c port now.

Quick question…can you pick multiple samples and lay them out on each pad simultaneously to make a drum kit yet…i hate doing this one by one on each pad

Thanks for letting me know about this. Im a windows user, so being able to use my external drive and copy straight to the ipad will be a game changer! I used to upload whatever I needed transferred to my Google Drive, and then download it to my Ipad. This will make it so much easier for me to transfer samples from my computer to my ipad!

Good call! So far I haven’t had any issues, but waiting to update is always a solid practice if you’re primarily concerned with stability.

I tried to transfer video files from my ipad to an external SSD, but the files get corrupted. Do you know how to fix this?

Thank God! Not showing progress or having a cancel transfer option made the file system a joke. We had better on the Apple II back in the late seventies.

Hi Jahrell. You videos are excellent. Thanks! I'm looking to get my first iPad, maybe next week. It seems from this video that the storage and file transfer issue has been solved, so I'm leaning towards the cheapest 2021 10.2", 64gb model. It has Apple's A13 chip, which also claims to be 20% faster than your 2020 iPad Pro A12. It's also got a phones output. Do you think it can manage say 10 audio tracks with, for instance, eq, compression and reverb per track? Of course I want to get an IP Pro, but it's a big price leap. I have other computers, so it's just for music creation. I'll probably mix in Logic. BR

Hey Matt! Great question! Tbh it’s really going to come down to which plug-ins you’re using, because some fx plug-ins can get hefty enough to make even an iPad Pro sweat. In my opinion though, the new 2021 base model iPad is going to perform very well and give huge bang for your buck (though I haven’t tested one myself yet). I would say if you can afford it, spring for at least 128gb if you can. Storage for music is tricky, because everything has to be saved on device. Think of external storage as a place to offload to, not a place to work from. Good luck on your purchase! 👍🏽 Feel free to use a link in the description if you’re planning to order from Amazon. I hear ya, the file system has been one of the biggest problems with using an Ipad. Another personal gripe of mine is that so many music apps are locked in to using itunes to import music files. I don’t have a mac, I don’t use Itunes and it totally screws me over on sooo many apps not being able to import the music files that are on my friggin ipad because I don’t use itunes!

Hey Phil, what apps are you using that require you to use iTunes for import? Every app that I use that involves files, I handle everything in the files app.

@@MusicTechnologist well, I’m not sure off hand I would have to go through my apps I never use (because of this) but one I can recall offhand is jamup. I would love to be able to use that app but I can’t because the only way to import a file into it is to use iTunes or an ipod. I have neither and have no plans to use either, just irks the crap out of me that I can’t use files that are on my ipad with that…. And I’ve run into this a lot, I would really have to dig into the apps to be reminded which ones are like this though because I don’t use them. It has gotten a bit better since they have “somewhat” improved the file system on the ipad.

It should work fine. That is the exact interface I use with my iPad pro using iPadOS 15. You have to make sure you take your Focusrite Scarlett out of MSD mode. You can do that by downloading the focusrite control software to your laptop or desktop computer and then disabling MSD in settings. After that, reconnect the interface to your iPad and everything should work fine.

I wouldn’t count on them ever adding a headphone jack back. IMO they definitely axed the port WAY too soon, but I also think the future of audio is wireless. Currently there is too much latency with bluetooth audio for it to work well for music production, so a pair of wired headphones is a MUST for producers. It would be nice to be able to plug in directly, but a good slim usb-c hub/dongle does the job for now and I think eventually bluetooth audio tech will gain the ability to transmit with zero delay.

The iPad, and a lot of apple devices, are mad cool, with great apps, etc., til you realize the state of the OS is so bad that people are getting hype for progress bars and cancel buttons. What a weird-ass ecosystem this is, man.

Good info but much too much fluff. Just my feeble opinion. I tend to be impatient. I just want the info I am looking for, not all kinds of extra stuff. P,ease dont be insulted. I know you just want to make the experience more fun, and nothing wrong with fun.
