IPG LightWELD filling gaps

Typically gaps are the hardest thing the LightWELD hand held laser welder has to deal with. They are very possible to weld with a little practice.
Evan the TIG welder shows a couple of methods for bridging the welding gaps. No gap parts can be fusion welded, gaps less than the diameter of the wire fill in with the normal wire feed set up. Ones larger than the diameter of the wire can be done with the methods in this video.

Our company just purchased a LightWeld from Serra. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate seeing you guys doing these videos. I've watched everything you've made so far. Laser welding is certainly not same a traditional welding. We are getting more comfortable with it now. Takes practice like anything else. That said, could you talk about the settings on the laser welders in more detail? That is to say, why should someone increase or decrease wattage vs wobble width.....or are there specific reasons to chose Continuous Welding vs Pulse welding. That's kinda where we still struggle.

The IPG presets do a very good job on the vast majority of welding applications. A weld where you might want to increase the wobble width is an outside corner where you want to catch both edges of the material. The effect of widening the wobble is you will get less penetration as the energy is being spread out over a larger area. So to counteract this - increase the power which increased penetration. Conversely if you narrow the wobble width this will increase penetration into the part. Pulse welding is used to control heat input into a part - just like it is in laser cutting. You can still get the same penetration with less energy into the part.
