My brother just got an SE today for his birthday and I'm getting one for mine next month, but when he got his it had the normal apple package (like everything before the 12) but the 12 has no brick or the regular charging port like I'm previous generations of iphone. That kinda upset me but it's a tad upsetting that the 12 has no brick or earpods because lets me honest here, the size of the box isn't gonna kill someone so it wasn't my favorite thing apple has done with the packaging. And I'm still waiting for my headphone jack to come back✨

I just bought the se yesterday.. I really can’t afford the new iPhones so I have always been models behind when I purchased one. Didn’t know that I was getting a decent iPhone for the money and not having to settle for a 6 or 7 just to get away from android.

@@hollywoodthedj1673 My first Iphone I got from an AT&T Store which was a original SE but only 32 GB's, I sold it and got a like new 6s from Amazon which had 126 GB storage, when the new one came out I sold that one to Deculttr, and found out it was locked to AT&T and got 85 dollars. I bought an new Iphone SE 2020 with 256 GB storage which I have only halfway used so far.

@@Therealpeter10 yes, I think SE is special edition: some of the newest features in a small body. The SE is built to last, while the mini does have the newest features, next year it will miss some of the newest features too.

I have SE and now i ordered 12 MINI.I have 2 phone numbers . I LOVE MY SE and it keep allmost 1,5 days battery. I use it only for few emails ,i am not gamer and just ocassionally some youtube.

You do know the the SE can run (2) phone numbers, right? It has a digital SIM and a physical SIM card. I ran my SE like that for a while but in the end, went with a second phone too.

The video quality was surprisingly much better on the SE in both the seflie video and the rear camera. Strange.

I guess it's because the Dolby Vision conversion to SDR? Some says it's actually worse if you export the video to sdr non-dolby.

I agree with this, the guys skin looked a little flat when shot on the iPhone 12 mini, and the colors where nicer on the SE than on the 12 in my opinion, but I did see when I looked closer that the colors where shifting green tones when it was facing the grass. But overall the SE looked beautiful and in my opinion better

Sorry but I disagree, the Iphone 12 mini caemra looks washed out, the SE is much clearer, and video no comparison, the video colors for SE are much better.

That’s because the 12 exports the video using Dolby vision. If it was exported directly or if you saw the photos in person, the 12 mini’s quality is significantly better

I’ve had my SE 2020 since June. It’s my first iPhone and I love it. I loved that I was able to get it at such a great price despite the Touch ID and bigger bezels. But that was fine with me because I wanted my first iPhone to have the iconic look. As for the battery, I’m fine with it too. With the iPhone 12 mini, the blue one spoke to me at the Apple event. But I know I can’t afford that right now so I’m happy with the SE and sticking with it. Still not even sure if I was able to upgrade if I would.

I think one aspect you should also consider is how well these phones will age. The iPhone SE will be ok over the next 12-18months, but when 5G becomes more widespread, I believe the iPhone 12 mini will allow it to perhaps age better and hold onto its value for longer. That being said, I purchased the iPhone SE back in August 2020 and it does everything I need it to do just fine (love the finger unlock during these mask times), so I'll hold onto it for now and start saving my money for the iPhone 16...lol

The Iris scanner on my Samsung gave me headaches. It was literally uncomfortable to have a laser shined in your eye every time you unlock your phone.

Through my job, I get a lot of perks and I had the option to get the new 12 pro max, so I didn't need to choose a phone based on price. After researching, I decided on the SE. It's a phone and it does what it's supposed to: call and receive calls. It's small enough for my hands and more importantly, it has the fingerprint id function. I have no issues with battery life. The camera is great for everyday use. I have very little need for more than what it offers and think that's the best way to decide for yourself. What are your minimum requirements for your use case? I mean if you want to spoil yourself and splurge, then by all means do that! I just think that people can do with a lot less than they think they can. Before I joined the company I'd been using a MotoG5 and was super happy with it :)

Traded in my 7+ Red edition 128 GB for a SE Red edition 256 GB for $449. I didn’t want to let it go, but the digitizer was acting funny. I felt it was more economical just to trade it in while it had a bit of worth instead of paying to repair it. You can’t beat that price paying all up front cash. I hope this one goes for 4 years as well 🤞

I returned the SE 2020 because the battery life was awful. I got an iphone 11 instead but wanted to change it for the mini. After your review stated the mini has worse battery life than the SE I will just keep the 11. Decisions, decisions! (Maybe I should just get the Motorola which has 3 day battery life!)

I have an 11 I bought a year ago and just got my 12 Mini a week ago. I like the little phone, it is great in many ways- but I think I will be returning it because battery life does not hold a candle to what I get on my 11.... and there is absolutely no difference in pictures with the camera on the 12 Mini vs my 11- the camera was admittedly a very minor upgrade, mostly adding night mode to the ultrawide angle lens.

Picked up the SE. Coming off a 6S. No regrets. Had it for a couple of weeks now. Mine still came with the buds and a brick which was an unexpected surprise. Camera in a slightly different position so my old 6S case doesn’t line up perfectly with the SE camera. Will have to pick up a new case eventually. But outside of that, totally happy and satisfied with the purchase

I have an iPhone 8 plus and have been wanting to downgrade in size. I was in-between the SE and 12 mini but ended up buying the mini. I only upgrade my phone every 3-4 years, so I want my phone to be future proof and be a pleasure to use. I would be making too many compromises with the SE (smaller screensize, losing camera features), whereas on the mini I get almost the same size display as what I'm coming from, a much faster phone, better display, better camera, and probably better battery life than what I have on my 8 plus. I'd rather have a great phone for 4 years then having an average phone for 2 years and then having to upgrade again.

I have an iPhone 8 plus just like you and have been wanting to downgrade but I chose SE over 12 mini. Biggest reason is money 🤣 if I compare the features I used then 12 mini would be overpriced for me. I bought SE 2 days ago and been in love with it so far. The battery is great 👍 much better then my 3 years old 8 plus

The screen size isn’t so clear cut. 16:9 content will appear bigger on the older plus size models due to the much wider screen. But, that extra space on the screen of the mini compared to the older small models is nice. Typing will still be on the smaller side.

Currently using a regular iPhone 11 after coming from the iPhone 8, and very much hating the bigger screen size. I’m likely going to trade it in for the SE, I don’t see a big enough difference in the camera for the 12 mini. Also, Touch ID is clutch these days!

I feel you on this I have a XR got it after my 8 had gotten stolen hated the size from the jump so once the iPhone Se 2020 came out & I seen how affordable it was I added a second line on my plan and brought it just because & been using it ever since it’s time to turn my XR back in I was going to get the 12 mini just to have and try out but I don’t know what I’m going to do but one thing I’m not doing is getting rid of my SE 2020 my only regret is that I didn’t get the 128 gig SE I got the 64 but it’s not that much of a problem!

Remember the iPhone 5? 6? One thing I know from Apple, never keep the first model year products after a facelift, Apple is great at retooling the same chassis and perfecting the process. The later generations last a lot longer

With that mindset you can wait eternally because the next edition will always be better. I still have SE 1 from 2016 so for me it’s time for the 12 mini! Also with 5 and 6 they came out with 5s and 6s a year later. They stopped that and next will be 13 probably

I’m your age and still amazed at what these phones do SE, Mini, pro, S21 or whatever. I’m not playing games on any phone, that’s what and Xbox is PC is for. When we were young we had to drop change in a phone both to make a call away from home. We had 35 mm cameras. All these current phone were for Star Trek. People now especially the young take this all for granted. The Apple SE is an amazing phone. I don’t care about night mode a flash on the camera is plenty good. Search for used ones and you could get a mint SE for under $300.00. For me it’s the following. 1. Answer or make calls. 2. Finding information. 3. Using maps. 4. Using texting.

The notch and high screen to body ratio is useless and impractical,the iphone se look's more practical with a proper rectangular display and honestly I love top and bottom chins on smartphones with little bit of Bezels

I actually upgraded to an iPhone SE (2020) from the original SE and loved it but that battery life was not so great. Phone was dead by 4pm. Plus the battery health was down to 99% within 1 week which freaked me out. I had to return it and now have the iPhone 12. I think the mini is going to have the same battery issues as the SE.

Have an SE, I’m using it right now. In love with it. The only thing I don’t like it that using the camera at night to record something is basically impossible. The quality sucks! That’s an easy fix though with a ring light or a clip on light to the phone. But during the day , camera quality is damn near perfect! Other than that one minor draw back , the SE was a great buy. Happy with my purchase .☺️

I got the SE 2020 for free due to an AT&T promotion(Trade-in old device(Pixel2) and upgrade line). I wouldn’t have payed full price for the SE, if it wasn’t for the promotion I would have gotten the Pixel4a.This isn’t the first iPhone I’ve owned but it’s definitely a good one for me because I like the old design of it. My favorite iPhone design was the 4s and the 12mini looks similar, but I’m at a point in my life where I’m over paying so much for phone specs that i rarely ever use. This phones battery is just fine if you turn on battery saver mode, disable background refresh, adjust other settings, and just use it as a phone and not a Nintendo Switch lol.

I bought the SE with 128 gigs at the beginning of November to replace my 5S. It came with charger and earbuds. It does everything I need it to do and saved money for other things. Added a glass screen protector and UBPro case (removed the plastic screen protector)

Had the original SE from 2016. Bought the iPhone 12. Don't like it, especially the size. I gave it to my daughter and went back to original SE. Thought about the mini, but this old SE does everything I need.

The XR for an extra $100 has a better screen and battery. Even with one less year of updates it'll be a better experience. But I'd just save up for the 11 or wait for the SE Plus to come out in April. It should basically be the XR with a A14 for $500

Thanks for the comparison. If I I could use Apples modified samsung OLED displays I would buy the Mini 12 but the PWM wrecks my eyes and gives me headaches for days. So my 7 Plus is going into its 5th year of use and another battery replacement. I'm considering an ipad mini 5 and SE 2020 combo. I very much don't like the XR or 11, they are too thick and look and feel cheap. Fingers crossed for SE Plus eventually, or even a SE 12 Mini hybrid with LCD. 🤞

Dude I upgraded my iPhone XS to the 12 mini. The XS was still so big in the hand and pocket. I love my 12 mini, feels like home when I can hold my phone on one hand without it falling on my face when watching KZfaq videos in bed. Lol I have the apple leather case it’s so perfect. It’s a heavy puncher. Lol

Actually, my next door neighbor just got a brand new SE for his daughter and it just came with a cable in a smaller box. If you go to a carrier store they still have the original box with the brick and ear pods.

I did ask Tim Cook on an email to work on smaller sized phone back in 2019 over an email when he launched Iphone 11. I didn't get any reply to my email back then. But he did work on it on priority and the result is in your hand right now. So I don't have to worry about my next upgrade. :-) Wish i could show the screen shot of the email here!

I have both phones. The review sums it up fairly nicely. The 12 mini is a marginal upgrade in my opinion. Trade in for the se2 is $220. 12 mini is $784 after taxes. Not worth the upgrade. Sending the mini back because of the Home Screen issues. Battery life is much better on the mini, but I have chargers in the office, car and home so I am set. Both charge quickly.

Great job on the video but I think the MIni screen size is more like 5 because that little are next to Face ID is worthless ... the screen size of the SE is 4.7 so I think there really not that different screen size .

I just got the SE despite seeing examples of a darker screen with muddy colors (Flossy). I was glad to see that going into options and disabling True Tone made the screen look as bright and colorful as other phones with more nits, I'm mostly an LG phone owner but I like to have an Apple on the side. The SE also supports back tap with iOS 14. The SE is a lot of phone for the $240 new that I paid (Newegg). I like the smaller and lighter size when I have it paired with my Garmin Watch when I bike, walk, hike etc. My big LGs make my pants sag lol.

Hi: I liked your video a lot. I bought the iPhone SE three months ago for use, price and size. I like speed, sound and screen. First of all, it is usefull for me because I can only use one hand, because of a disability. In size I believe the iPhone 12 mini is a lot better but the price is a lot higher in my country. I hope apple and other brands to make smaller phones because some of us need a compact size because our physcal condition.

Yes!! I am worried about switching to the SE 2020 from the old SE. I have a disability and the lighter is the best for me, as well as smaller. The old SE is only 3.99ozs vs 5.22ozs in the SE 2020. I can barely manage this one. The 12 mini is 4.76. I am so torn!!

@@Bmoore295 which one is your disability? in my case I can't move my left hand because of a neurological condition, so i only use my right hand. I had the first generation of iPhone SE and now I have the iPhone SE 2020. Let me tell you that I prefer the old one size over this one, but now I can manage the new one with one hand without any problems. But you need a thin case. Now, in my opinión I believe that if you have the money the iPhone 12 mini is a great choice, but if you get the SE 2020 you will no regret. About the size you will get used to it in a few days.

@@Seujiro I have a combination of rare disorders that mean my joints come out of place easily and my muscles get very weak. My left side doesn't work well due to neurological things. I have to use a popsocket because I can't grip even the old SE well, so I am super nervous changing phones, but this one is absolutely dying.

The reason is that the screen is smaller and without frames, so you can touch the screen easily. Besides that it responds fast enough. Maybe you could use a Popsocket but I think you will use that phone very well. The diference between the old SE and the iPhone 12 mini are the frames. The 12 mini is an SE with more screen. You can go to an apple store and try them. Please if you go or you buy a new iPhone please send me a messaje about your decision.

The video difference in 4K 30 will be the Dolby vision hdr being turned on with the 12 mini and it doesn’t convert well without a lot of work

Great Comparison Review, Mike. Like your recent Apple Watch Series 6 and SE comparison review it has me leaning towards the SE. I actually bought the Apple Watch SE as I thought it was way more value for money thanks to your comparison review of them both. And it looks to be the same with these two Phones. I currently have the iPhone SE (2016) and do like it. But I’m tempted to upgrade and I love that the new iPhone 12 Mini is the same size and shape design as my current phone. But I prefer the price and Touch ID on the SE and I don’t see a massive difference in he Photos and Video you were showing or the sound of the Speakers and certainly not £300 better. There is not much of a price difference between a iPhone 7 and SE 2020 online...and with SE we are getting a 4 years newer phone .I think this is such a nice price for a iPhone. Battery is good because of nice optimisation in IOS 14.

I run the iPhone se. I use it for filming short docs and it’s never disappointed. All I did was add a shotgun mic. Day to day it’s also an overall fabulous phone

I had an iPhone XS but it broke and I actually got the new SE. I thought I would hate it but I honestly love the size and using the move button again- it’s still really good. And I honestly like this phone a lot
