The best thing in my opinion in the p40 pro is that you don't have to enable the night mode in dark areas .... By experience it ruins the photo honestly

Really, really interesting. I have the weird feeling that some software update has been received on P40 pro, which has f*cked up the camera. I remember how well this phone did in your older videos.Something similar had happened to P30 pro, just before Mate 30 pro's release. There is something fishy. Thanks for the comparison!

One major issue with the review: for the front camera video recording, iPhone's bottom microphone was blocked by the other phone, no wonder it sounds so bizarre, normally you would hear well-balanced stereo sound. Color accuracy still makes iPhone stands out from other brands.

Looks like the Huawei pictures are more realistic, having more realistic colors with no kind filtering like the iPhone does. I prefer realistic colors then I can apply any filter I want.

I'm a Huawei P40 pro user and I agree to what you've said about the iPhone being slightly better in a few different scenarios but when you way up the price difference between these two handsets the photographic difference isn't worth the extra cost that the iPhone demands. I got my P40 pro new on contract for £700 I can't find anything close to that for the iPhone. Still their both awesome camera phone's and fare play to apple they have upped their game since the iPhone 10. Great video thank you for sharing. 👍🍀😁

@wulla bokeh! That's down to the individual eye and what's pleasing to them. Everyone has their own opinion on bokeh. As for the p40 pro it's bokeh is as good or better than most especially with the camera options Huawei has integrated in the menu system.

I have to admit that when it comes to color science, Apple nails it, except for one detail: white skin gets very reddish and I don't like it. Looks like the subject got sun burnt! I think Apple must fix that issue. Because of that, portrait pictures and selfies are more pleasant on the P40 Pro. Apart from that, as for the zoomed in pictures, I think that the sharper pictures from the P40 Pro are definitely better. The zoomed in pictures from the iPhone are blurry and lack detail.

Thanks. Great comparison! Makes the choice easier. I think Huawei is better with night time pictures (excluding portrait pics) but I am surprised by the night time recording of the iPhone. Overall I have to say Huawei does crisper pictures but I am a bit annoyed by the change of original colours the Huawei does.

I prefer shots from P40 : sharper and no reddish color (face). At 3:36, P40 seems to have much better dynamic range : see thru the window of the door. Anyway, iPhone is ahead in video, as always

i have a p30 pro, and i always have distort colors when i zoom in, and thats quite annoying. maybe on pro mode will get better, but i dont know entirely how to use it. :)) so on auto mode, like iphone, i preffer iphone for the colors.

Yeah I hate it that phone cameras flip the image so annoying. The only way I get around this is using my whatsapp to take selfie and screen shoot. Or use a beauty app but it is usually laggy and annoying too. Haha

Its so sad that the Compression of KZfaq is rubbish. Its nearly impossible to judge videoquality. I own couple of phones myself and there is a world of difference in sharpness compared to the videosamples on youtube. Hope this improve in future. Thanks for your test. Interesting. Nightvideo: iPhone have these tiny and very disturbing light dots at night, just like Xiaomi. Huawei does not have them, but some problems when you move or pan the camera: Small distortions and a bit choppy /stutter. Propertly iPhone have 2 times more data bitrate and that helps when packing frames filled with lowlight noise. However, iPhone is not more light sensitive or produce better colors under these conditions.

1. Should have used the regular photo mode for night photos. 2. The iPhone video in low light was much better. Not sure why you thought it's the opposite. 3. Props to Apple for a great camera system. However, it is still held back by the lack of a proper tele camera. 4. Really, it is the Mate 40 Pro/Plus with new processing that we need to see going against the iPhone 12 Pro/Max series with a bigger sensor, once all of those are available.

I forgot to mention that on Huawei phones, night mode on the front camera only increases the ISO slightly instead of performing long exposure/bracketing. That's why it looks like the night mode does nothing for selfies. On the other hand, the iPhone runs the bracketing algorithm for the night mode on the front camera.

I do think that iPhone follows the same trend that Samsung has, way over saturated colors. P40 doesn't deserve the price, p30 pro can still do 90% of the things that P40 does. Just my opinion. Keep it up with the great job that you do. Cheers

@@elforensico78 yes it has 1/2.8” sensor but always remember its a 50mp that means it’s resolution is 8192 X 6144 which made the pixel to shrunk 1.22 micron on a f/1.9 aperture. however the iphone 12 pro max had a 1.7 micron sensor on a f/1.6 aperture. if my calculations are correct i assume that the iphone sensor paired with its lens will have 210% more low light performance than a p40 pro (50mp mode) , and also the fact that pro max uses a new sensor shift neans more stable faster shutter speed on lower ISO would make it way better 😊

No, that is not the reason. The ultra wide camera on the P40 Pro is specifically designed for video and it it does way better than the main camera in low light. If I would have shown you the main camera the video quality would have been way worst.

Thank you very much. Please compare in the absolute darkness of the main camera. In this case, Huawei uses ISO 409600, because it uses the ryyb pixel architecture, and the larger pixel size of Huawei. Huawei absorbs at least 8 times more light.

The problem with a ISO that high...it introduces too much noise. The lowest the ISO the better the picture will turn out

Using an ISO that high is going to create a super noisy image. That's why it's better to use a lower iso and a longer exposure if you want to capture more detail.

I'll give you a quick example... when I film in the studio, the ISO on my camera is set to 100. At that ISO the video is super sharp and doesn't have any noise...the higher I turn it up the worst the quality of the video. So, yes these phones can go to some crazy ISO levels but you don't really want that. You want a sensor as big as possible that can capture as much light as possible so the ISO can stay as low as possible :)

The removal of high lights and shadows from skins make the iPhone portrait shots look like game renders without light effects. Not a big fan of the artifical look. Hope that ProRaw allows recovering it.

You haven't took foto with night mode with p40 pro. There is no challenger there

Unfaire 3x in iphone is optic but 3x in p40 is digital .why wouldn't use the 5 x which is optical... You always find some deceiving ways to make iphone superior no matter how...

I think after this camera comparison dxomark should stop making misleading camera comparisons mate 40 pro a phone without ois is the number 1 in their list clearly the iphone 12 & note 20 ultra & pixel 5 are much better in camera department thank you sir for this detailed camera comparison

The thing is...Huawei sends a lot of updates...and after each update the camera's algorithm changes... I could swear that two updates ago the camera was way better
