IF YOU ARE STUCK ON WAITING FOR REBOOT/WHITE SCREEN: Are you running redsn0w under Windows 8.1 or older? Windows 10 and 11 break the tool! I mentioned this in the video, but a lot of people seem to miss it so I’m putting it here as well.

I just wanted to add that I managed to get this working via VM Windows 7, the tricky part is the USB acknowledging the iPhone via VM while its going through the jailbreaking stages, I had to keep toggling the VM to register my iPhone 3g until all stages were done, Great tutorial

So glad you commented this because I'm trying to do this right now on Windows 7 via VirtualBox 7. I'm having the hardest time getting it to recognize my 2nd gen Itouch. My main system (Windows 10) only recognizes my itouch as a "Camera" device instead of a storage device, which is what it used to show up as when plugged in. Because of that, I can't get the VM to recognize it either. Any tips on getting my main system and the VM to recognize my old ass ipod? Should I put it into Recovery Mode or DFU prior to launching my VM? What do you mean by "I had to keep toggling the VM to register my IPhone 3rd gen"?

Honestly just put my 3G back on iPhones OS 2.2.1 because everything newer is so slow on 128mb RAM. I reckon the unfortunate side effect being that the App Store simply won’t load on that old of firmware and I have a heck of a time finding jailbreak tweaks that work with it. Least it still works as an iPod! The doubled memory in the 3GS made a massive difference. It runs iOS 5 pretty well. Thanks for the video!

No problem! The 3G is pretty slow on iOS 4 I have to agree, but I keep it there because it still makes a pretty good phone for old iOS games once you find some IPAs for it.

So you said it couldn't work on a vm.... I got it to work on a vm!! I use virtual box on Windows 11 and used Windows 7 home premium inside the vm You have to insure the USB it correctly set up and if you can then you can use a vm just have to keep the device menu open and be ready to click when the iPhone appears again

Nice work! I do know now that it works on VMware, but I’ve always heard that it doesn’t on virtualbox, due to the USB driver it uses, I guess I’m wrong!

If it’s gets stuck too long then just force reset it and try again

@@3lectr1c I’ve tried it a few more times, it gets to the running pineapple, freezes on moving applications then goes to the apple logo where it stays until a loading logo comes up on top of the apple logo and it stays like that till it runs out of charge or I put it in recovery mode

Odd. Maybe you’re device has some issue. You are restoring it in iTunes between tries, right?

It shouldn’t damage your device, worst case is that data can become corrupted and you’ll have to wipe it clean to factory settings, but it works fine for most people.

You can make a backup in iTunes. If you don’t want to risk data loss then yes, you may not want to jailbreak it. I’ve never personally screwed one up like that, but I’ve gotten a few comments from people who have. It’s up to you.

I wasn't aware until now that there were a few different revisions of the iPod Touch 2! (I don't own one). I don't know one specific version of redsn0w that will work for you here, but you can get just about every version of the tool here (www.iphonehacks.com/download-redsn0w), so just try some of the versions a little newer than the one linked in the description until you find one that works for you.

For the MC Versions there are other tools like GreenpoisOn or Limera1n but for this you better use mac os or a Windows 7 Installation no VM because with Windows 10 it is a Bit complicated to set up and get it running (Correct me if i say wrong stuff i can only talk about my experience)

iPod touch or iPhone? If you have a later ipod touch 2nd gen with a model number starting in "MC", it won't work (that's why MB is in the title, it's the earlier model). I have an MC model touch now and I'll have a tutorial out sometime soon.

The only thing that bothers me when I want to jailbreak in ios 4.2.1 is that my power button isn't working. And so it's really hard to enter DFU mode.

My iPod touch 2g won’t go into duf mode I have a new battery in there and every time I try to put it in duf mode it doesn’t it’s stuck on the Apple logo and just boots up like normal how do you fix it

@@3lectr1c I had it jailbroken before but it got bricked and every time I turn it on the Apple logo comes on and the loading circle will appear at the bottom of the Apple logo that’s why I got a battery replacement for it and now it won’t go into duf mode

You don’t hold power and home on the Lock Screen, you shut it down first. 1: Slide to power down after holding the power button. 2: Hold the power button for 5 seconds. An Apple logo should appear. 3: While still holding on the power button, start holding down on the home button for around 10 seconds. The Apple logo should disappear. 4: around 2/3 seconds after the logo disappears, stop holding down power but keep holding down on the home button until redsn0w detects the device in DFU mode. It’s best to follow the instructions in redsn0w while putting the device in dfu mode. Counting the seconds yourself is hard! :)

Hello, this tutorial worked a bit for me but I have a problem, because normally the "Uploading ramdisk" part takes just a few seconds, while for me it took like 3 or 4 minutes, and after those minutes passed, everything goes REALLY REALLY fast and no code shows on the iPhone screen, and redsn0w says "Done!", like if the jailbreak was installed on the device, but the screen of the iPhone still shows the "Downloading Jailbreak Data..." thing.

Weird issue. I've never heard of that happening before. Try restoring the device in iTunes and then try again. This will cause you to lose all data on the phone, so keep that in mind before restoring.

iPhone 3G screen replacements aren’t hard to do if you want to restore it back to good condition.

It’s more about price than anything. I’ve done my fair share of iPhone repairs so I’m not worried about difficulty. (I just restored a beat up and bent 6s a few days ago), but I know the glass is modular on the 3G. I just can’t find new glass anywhere. I’d also need to replace the rear housing and battery. Worth it, but it will probably be a while.

@@3lectr1c 1) You have to get a whole new screen, the glass is laminated to the screen. 2) You can actually use Plastx, a plastic cleaner, to clean up the scratches from the back of the iPhone without replacing the housing. 3) I’m guessing the 6S restoration video will be coming out soon? 4) Your iPhone’s camera not focusing isn’t just an issue with your phone, it’s just the camera quality. My 8+ has that same issue.

@The iTunes Fanboy It's possible, just pretty difficult: www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+3G+Front+Panel+Replacement/587 I'd try different products to get rid of scratches, but mine is cracked really bad, and the silver apple logo paint has been partially damaged. I've heard brasso can also work well on plastic of that type. At least for the white color. I'll look into that though, thanks! You might see a video on the 6s restoration, but probably not for a few weeks at least. I have some other projects at the moment. I have another 7 Plus and it focuses way better. Mine got worse recently, I've been recording with it since day one of this channel. I think it's damage from being dropped. I'd switch to the other 7 Plus but its display is trashed and it's only a 32GB model.

Good luck with that! I don’t use Spotify so I can’t help you, but I doubt it can be made it work without someone developing a tweak. You can fix the built in KZfaq app though!

Yes, it’s just that old tutorials don’t mention that you need an old iTunes version or windows version for it to work, as they worked on the latest version when they were made. That’s why I made this video.

In settings for tweaks it says, “There was an error loading the preference bundle for (Insert Tweak here): The bundle “Insert tweak bundle here” couldn’t be loaded because it is damaged or missing resources.” Yes I typed the whole thing out, perhaps something that’ll fix broken tweaks?

PreferenceLoader is the tweak that is responsible for loading the preference bundles. It is known for being rather unreliable on very old versions of iOS. You can try to install “PreferenceLoader (armv6)” from IPG’s repo (cydia.invoxiplaygames.uk), but it hasn’t worked for all tweaks in my experience. You can also try downgrading PreferenceLoader if it’s an option. It may not be though.

It tells me to connect to iTunes to set up, but iTunes is not on Linux (my main os) and it needs a old version of iTunes. Also it is the iPod touch second gen

Yes, that’s why you need windows 8.1 or earlier. That’s exactly what happens on Windows 10. You can jailbreak from a vmware virtuously machine, look up a tutorial for installing windows 7 on that.

Bro I need help. When I go into my general settings and about, my model starts with PC. will this method still work for me? All 3 ipods are on 4.2.1 and all have the same PC model number. What does this mean?

Can you post the full model number? It sounds like you’re reading from the wrong section. Make sure you aren’t looking at the serial number.

Ok, I’ll have to power up my Touch 2nd gens and check if I can find that number anywhere. Normally if it starts in MB then redsn0w works and if it starts with MC than you need greenp0ison but I’ve never heard of one starting in PC. I’m glad my channel has helped you out!

Lost a bunch of old family photos that were on a hdd. Found the old iPhone 3Gs but when turning it on, it’s stuck on recovery/iTunes plug in screen. Second phone for some reason says to wait like a gazillion years before trying passcode. Would this help in any way to regain access to these phones or their data inside? So desperate trying to get precious data back… Anyone?

Oooh, that’s a tough one. The 3GS could just be corrupted, or it could have bad NAND, which means the data is gone. Not sure what’s up with the iPod. I don’t know a way around either of those issues but whatever you do don’t restore them in iTunes.

Try looking up passcode bypasses for iOS 4.2.1. I couldn’t find any though and you can’t access cydia in that state. If you can’t get around it then do an iTunes restore.

Hey sorry to bother you but I chose verbose boot logo or whatever it was called and I don't know if it changes anything I'm not getting the new boot logo like you got I got the (systemShutdown false) then it rebooted and ended up in the exact same spot again but then it dimmed a bit and did something funny at the bottom now at the bottom it says (00000000 far : 0x lr : 0x00000000 fp: 0x) I think I might know what the problem is I'm on iOS 3.1.3 so I'm going to try and fix that but if it's something different please do let me know thank you love you brother

I’m not sure exactly what’s going on but I’m guessing something broke and it isn’t booting. Try restoring in iTunes and see if that gets you booting again. What device are you using? I’d recommend using my recent jailbreakme tutorial (my 2nd most recent upload) to jailbreak 3.1.3.

Are you on Windows 10? (Or 11)? You can’t easily use redsn0w on Windows 10, it just doesn’t work right. Uninstall all Apple software and then try this version of iTunes: support.apple.com/kb/DL1816?viewlocale=sl_SI&locale=pt_PT Let me know if this works.

I did a settings reset in my iPhone and lost practically all my battery. I'm afraid that it will die in the middle of the reset and make it unusable. Do you think the risk is real? If so, would it still be worth it?

Make sure it’s plugged in during the reset, simple. If the battery is so bad that it loses charge when running and plugged in, use a higher wattage iPad charger.

Ah with an iTunes restore, yes. But in that case it should be charging. Worst case scenario if it dies during the restore it will just crash into recovery mode and you can try again. But if your battery is that bad you should replace it or get it replaced.

You do not need an Apple ID to jailbreak the iPod.

I was kinda angry I had to dust of my old dell that I hate, because it´s so slow. It only has 11 mbps wifi speeds :( I have 1gbps. Anyways the download took about 15 minutes and the jailbreak was sucessful but I can´t for the life of me figure out why the tweaks are not loading and why preferance loader doesn´t work!! DISCLAIMER: THIS WAS ON A 2G

In the future for a 2G you can just go to jailbreakme.com from safari and jailbreak without any computer at all. For preferenceloader, you need to get a special version for old devices called “PreferenceLoader (armv6). It’s available on IPG’s repo (cydia.invoxiplaygames.uk). Also in that repo is a tweak called “Cydia HTTPatch” which should get cydia working properly for you. Hope this helps!

That means you have an “MC” model iPod Touch 2G, which is a late revision 8GB model that needs a different tool. Search up and download “greenp0ison”. It has the same requirements as redsn0w (Windows 8.1 or earlier, old iTunes), but should work with your iPod.

The latest version supported should work just fine, I think snow leopard shipped with some pre-iTunes 10 version.

I think it should - redsn0w supports iOS 5 but there’s a much better method for iOS 5 that works properly on Windows 10/11. I have a tutorial on my channel for it.

Are you using Windows 10? You need to use Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista or XP for this to work.

Alright. 1: Uninstall ALL Apple software you have. This means iTunes, the Apple mobile device drivers, iCloud for windows, bonjour. If it’s Apple software, uninstall it. 2: reboot your PC. 3: Reinstall iTunes 11.2 with the link provided in the description. Check your system properties (right click on My a computer in the start menu and select properties). If it says you have 32-bit windows (x86), install the 32-bit version. If it says you have 64-bit WINDOWS (not just an x64-based processor but 32-bit windows) install the 32-bit version. 4: Reboot again. 5: Try and jailbreak again. If it still doesn’t work try a different computer if you can.

Not sure what’s up, I’ve never had that happen before. Are you using Windows 8.1 or earlier? It doesn’t work on Windows 10 or 11. Try a different cable, computer if possible, standard troubleshooting. You can kick the device out of recovery mode with redsn0w in extra options I believe. Try that. If it doesn’t work, try to restore if you don’t have any important data.

You probably have a driver issue. If you’re using windows 10 then that’s probably the cause. You need to use an older version to get it to work reliably. If you’re already on an older windows version then you should uninstall every Apple program including the mobile device drivers, then try reinstalling iTunes. Hope this helps!

Is the disk all scratched up? If so, you can make an install usb from the ISO Microsoft has on their website. It needs a product key for install but most computers with secure boot already have one baked into the firmware that will automatically enter.

Doesn’t work. It’s a driver problem. I’ve heard that uninstalling all Apple software and then installing iTunes 12.4.3 “legacy GPU version” can get it working, but I haven’t tried this myself.

Try reinstalling drivers, but if your on Windows 10 that’s probably why. It usually only works on Windows 8.1 and earlier.

1: Add the source “cydia.akemi.ai” to cydia. 2: Install the tweak “AppSync for iOS 4” 3: Find the IPA file for the game you want to install online 4: Use an app on a windows pc like “iFunBox” to install the ipa file to the device. Keep in mind you still need to find an ipa file for a game that supports iOS 4.2.1. Also, some apps and games that do claim to support iOS 4 actually just crash when you try to launch them. Hope this helps!

iFunBox doesnt work for me. When i install .ipa it pops the window but when it closes it doesnt say anything (nor succesful or failed). Any advice :/?
