I have an iPhone 12 China/HK variant. Been using 2 local SIMs in the Philippines and iCloud ID is my default iMessage and Facetime send and receive. I haven't had any problems with Facetime audio. It works perfectly. UPDATE: I installed WhatsApp and was able to register and use the messaging app without any issues.

South Korean iPhones/iPads/iPods also seem to have shutter noise when taking photos even with silent mode on.

You can now mute the shutter sound on Japanese iPhones when you update to iOS 15 (as long as you're using a non-Japanese SIM card).

If Japanese phones are very cheap, no matter, even fart sound, I'm ok with that.

yesterday i’ve got a japanese iPhone 13 Pro without knowing it, but the shutter sound seems to be unaffected and muting when it’s in silent mode. maybe because i’ve setted the region to italy since i live there?

Something weird happened to me I ordered Japanese version in the UAE and before I inserted the SM card there was a shuttle sound, but after I insterted the SM card which is the UAE one the shuttle sound was gone..

WhatsApp works on 100% of Hong Kong variants, as my experience tell. It stops working due to China’s Internet Firewall, just in Mainland China, but not the iPhone itself.

But the thing is, it doesn’t have physical dual sim card, i have got this phone brand new here in Malaysia from official retailer. I don’t use FaceTime that much so can’t tell if anything is not working with it, but with Whatsapp, never faced any issues or problems.

Okay i have a japanese iphone 12 and i figured a way to handle annoying shutter sound...so you basically go to shortcuts and create an automation such that every time camera app is opened the volume turns to 0% and when you are out of camera app the volume turns up to 100% or what % level you want .
