Omg i remember watching this as a kid and even then I knew I was witnessing the birth of something revolutionary. My dad, RIP, then bought me the iPod, in the original cube box. And I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s such a wonderful memory. So legendary. Iconic

And many years later, the the U2 album Songs of Innocence was added without consent to every iTunes user library. Only Apple can come up with such stupid idea and get away with it.

I remember how cool I thought this commercial was when it first came out. This was actually better than the video for the song. I don't know why they just didn't use this instead 🤔? This video not only launched Ipod into the stratosphere, but it totally revived U2's career!

The album before this one was huge. Plus they became America’s band after 9/11. This album was basically their last “big” album.

Listen I remember when our household in like 1984 got a phone set with back-lit, push-button digits instead of the rotary dial which made calling a pone number like a ten-second affair. Now there are buttons. Illuminated buttons. Just chilling on the cutting edge of time and space and now you know that you don't call me Tim, you called me NEO.

When you’re a real big personality it stops being about the money. Other goals become important, as they were to Steve Jobs. Money just enables greater goals than making money.

@FunTimex1713 жыл бұрын
Yet another theory: "Uno, dos, tres, catorce," which is "1, 2, 3, 14" in Spanish. One theory is that Bono was directing listeners to The Bible: 1st Testament, 2nd Book, 3rd Chapter, 14th verse - "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Just a thought from the U2 songfacts site.

@reillyluck Thanks for that nugget of info! Cuz I know Bono can count in EVERY language (being music). OMFG...What a brilliant ad tie-in to their CD release at the time. Steve Jobs had a big hand in this...no doubt. He always seems to snuggle up to the most POLITICALLY aware artist...or maybe it's the other way around. I work in the biz, and I recall doing a Napte/Nielsen search to see when their spots would air. Of course I had the spot on disc, but to see it aired live was everything.

@dvdmoe Yes! AND the song order on HTDAAB is chiastic (an arrangement common in the OT). The first song (Vertigo - Ex 3:14 = the first mention of Yahweh in the Scriptures) mirrors the last song (Yahweh) AND the center of the song order: All Because of You (lyrics: All because of you, I AM = the most common English rendering of Yahweh). Song 2 (Miracle Drug --> written with a young, blind and deaf Irish poet in mind, who turned out to be a genius when he learned to communicate) mirrors Song 10

Respond to this video... Garden of Eden; Song 6 is the center of the chiastic structure and is what the author is trying to emphasize, thus pointing the reader to that center by the previous mirror images. In this case (but not always), the center (Song 6 - All Because of You (I AM)) also shares the focus of the first and last elements (Vertigo and Yahweh): The Tetragrammaton, YHWH or Yahweh. Some more food for thought! :-)
