Sure its kind of goofy and there was that serious DQ but the shooting world needs all the press and help we can get. If this "Fast and Furious meets IPSC" gets more people involved in shooting and shooting sports, then I say rock on.

The default 90 degrees in each direction still stands unless directly approved and overseen by the regional director (2.1.2.1). Since this movie wasn't IPSC sanctioned, the case might be made that the regional director didn't approve this :p No matter what safe angles you have, a 360 degree turn like the moron does before kicking down the door is an instant DQ. There's no way I'd let a competitor keep going after sweeping me, the audience and everything else around him.
@7HeavenCloud911 жыл бұрын
The RD doesn't have to “oversee” nor “directly approve” any nonstandard muzzle angles. It's very common for stages to have other muzzle angles, the RD approval requirement is met by the general stage approval process, where the approval is sought from the Regional Directorate and the Director just signs the approval in person. The only requirement relevant to competitors is that the reduced or enlarged angles are mentioned in the stage briefing.

What comes to the pistol being pointed behind a shooter when he is moving, this just isn't against the rules. You also don't understand what “specific safe angles of fire” means. And if you have never ran like that in a match, you have attended only matches with very simple course construction and/or restrictive range safety rules/bay geometry.
@CharlieMikeNS3 жыл бұрын
He broke the 180. Multiple Times. He would've been DQ'd by any RO who was even marginally competent.
@7HeavenCloud912 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought too. He didn't lose any time with that extra mag change. However, it's highly unlikely that a poorly seated mag would drop in the middle of a run. They usually drop right after insertion or right after the first shot with the poorly seated mag. Also, you won't usually notice dropping even a full mag from an Open pistol until it's time to fire. If you do, your mind is not focused on the things that matter, which are the targets and where you need to be to see and shoot them.
@WillyAndreBergstrom11 жыл бұрын
The safety rules still apply for level 1 and 2 (the only rules relaxed for these are course design), and the only way you can exceed the default safe angles 90 degree in each direction is with direct approval and oversight of the regional director.

what was the significant of louis koo dropping his magazine at 2:14?
@7HeavenCloud913 жыл бұрын
@driftinsti The ROs miss some commands at the end of COF, but this is again no fault of the competitors and probably for artistic reasons (less pay for less lines for the extras).
@7HeavenCloud913 жыл бұрын
@driftinsti The RO should run further uprange at this point. Also see the performance of the second competitor (at about 1:50), who also runs that way, but the RO is a bit more uprange and this shooter points the gun over his weak hand, avoiding the unnecessary 180 turn when going to the car door section. The technique of the second shooter is better, giving increased balance and avoiding a turn that slowed down the first shooter.

Neat clip, kind of IPSC imagined just a hair above reality (ok maybe more than just a hair).

my possible guess was so that on the last shot he didn't have to worry about reloading to a full mag at the last shot to triple tap? but funny thing was the shots don't add up nor was it necessary because louis koo had one round left inthe chamber anyways and so did the first shooter daniel... So if anything it was just to DRAW suspense and show that "louis dropped his mag and he still owned daniel... in time and triple tap"

It took viewing the whole movie at higher quality to identify the actual DQ situation, but it happened to the second competitor (Kwan), at 2:46 in this video. He unloads the gun with the finger inside the trigger guard, so DQ per rules 8.4.1. and 10.5.9 .

It's a shame that this movie has very little to do with IPSC shooting. It's about a heist, betrayal, and murder. Still a great movie though.

Ofcourse I'm going to quote rules, when people are claiming that rules violations occur when they would not have necessarily occurred, if this had been a rules compliant match. IPSC sanctioning is a term reserved for L3 and higher matches.

@driftinsti None. The people commenting on DQ for rule 10.5.2. (unsafe weapon handling, so called "sector breach") just don't understand the course of fire. He is "back tracking", running away from the targets. His gun is pointing in a "safe direction" and it is the fault of the RO for not keeping up with him. The RO cannot disqualify the shooter if he's not fast enough to get away from between him and the targets. It's just poor course/RO action design.
@7HeavenCloud912 жыл бұрын
Where? Like I wrote earlier, I didn't see any and I've seen the entire movien in HD. Also, when viewing a stage from video (especially a complex long course), you need to understand that not nearly all stages use a 90 degree rule anyway. That is the default (2.1.2), subject to modification in stage design (rule 2.1.2.1). So to be able to call a sector breach from video of a stage, you need to be intimately familiar with that particular stage as constructed and shot!

@driftinsti they cant run like this, the gun should always point forward and their finger should be out of the trigger guard
@7HeavenCloud911 жыл бұрын
He doesn't do a 360 degree turn, he does a 180 degree turn towards the strong hand and then turns the pistol towards the door when he again faces the door. That is the only possible rules compliant turn to make if the sector is open to the weak hand side but not he strong hand side. If you cannot discern this from the video, you really should not be making judgements based on it either. I've seen much more complicated turns performed legally even with tighter sectors.

Seriously? Youn are going to quote IPSC rules? This is not IPSC. The film was not sanctioned by IPSC (even though the film makers tried to do so). Hell, the RO can't even get the range commands right. And in respect to a DQ'able offence, try the 27 sec. mark. I don't care what the stage design is like, there is no way a pistol can be pointed behind a shooter while he/she is moving down range. And then the shooter does a complete 360 degree turn around the 30 sec. mark. This is bullshit.

@the3wire - I do Not agree with you, because if you want to press, promote the real shooting then this the wrong way. Don't you know, before all the shooting begin then what you need to know is the Safety Gun Handling, the Handgun Competition Rules, including those correct commands. But with this crap movie then shooting becomes a reckless stupid circus
