After the 5th goal went in the United fans started throwing coins and things into the Town fans, the little old lady sitting next to me was hit in the temple with a United bracelet. Never seen such inept defending by a First Division side, not even one headed for relegation. Had I been a United fan at the time, I would have demanded an investigation. Could gambling interests have affected the outcome?

Cont. Ipswich had a great side in the late 70s/early 80s and if they’d have played as well in the first half of 79-80 (13th with 21 points after 21 games) as in the second (picking up 33 points out of a possible 42) they’d have won the league with points to spare. United had a fantastic away following in the late 70s/80s which unfortunately contained a lot of undesirables who often went only to cause trouble e.g. at Norwich in 77 which led to a short ban (although this was easily circumvented!).
