So 1 comment 1 question. Nobody that I knew in England wanted any soldiers in Ireland. The only reason we could get was that the IRA would kill every Catholic or Protestant whatever so the army was called in to protect them. My family hated England being in Ireland. What’s surprising is that all the weapons available to IRA. Where did they come from & who paid for them. Ok last ??? The English must have know how the weapons got into Ireland and did nothing. Politics??????? Anyway I am English and feel so sorry and sad for all the innocent people that got killed or maimed for life. So sad.

zeus 5029 mainly from supporters in the U.S.A they were also supplied by Col. Gaddafi, robbing RUC barracks and a couple of other gun smuggling routes. As to the “English did nothing about the weapons” they can’t Ireland is a sovereign nation. England has no right to make criminal prosecutions within the Republic of Ireland. The Gardaí found some of the caches but not a super substantial amount. The Army was originally deployed to “protect the catholic minority” but the people saw it as an occupation and when internment started in ‘71 and the Ballymurphy and Bloody Sunday massacres happened it handed the IRA a great recruiting tool.
