Got bored so I did some math.. However I'm not too sure I did it all right and you'll see why shortly. Assuming that the Driver in IRacing is around 65kg (145lbs), this would have not only been as close to a guaranteed fatal crash as possible but would have been in the ballpark of a 80g crash. Notes: Death may occur at >50 g Assumed the weight of the IRacing driver to be 65kg added 20ms to the stopping time to reflect what the barriers could do IRL that isn't simulated in IRacing

big difference between sustained and instantaneous G-forces. I think, at most, a concussion from this crash, if you consider that that's about what Bolukbasi had from a reportedly 70G+ impact
@CharlesFreck2 жыл бұрын
Wish you'd actually posted the math, I suspect you massively underestimated the effect of both the cars crumple zone and the tyre barrier when it comes to absorbing and dissipating energy. A large portion of the benefit of barriers is that they redirect the force, rather then just absorbing it. Therefore you don't really have a stopping time, since you never stop. You slow down, but never completely halt, adding spin to continue the movement, meaning you never actually have an 80g stop.

Might look like it, but its actually some logic behind it, lol. This was my second session in the car at this track, and the previous had "better" weather conditions and the car was neutral to slight understeer at turn in. In this session (first lap out of the pit) the track was very hot (40C+) and the car did not like the turn in + downshift at the same time with no rear wing. Anyway, I am dead but hopefully it will be used as an example for the survivors.

Yep, the initial steering input + downshift (higher revs tucking the front even more) + very hot track + expecting more understeer = lights out
