Hayder al-Khoei is the Director of Foreign Relations at the Al Khoei Institute, a seminary, public library and dialogue centre in Najaf, Iraq. He was an Associate Fellow of the Middle East and North Africa programmes at Chatham House and the European Council on Foreign Relaitons. His research interests include Middle Eastern history, politics and Islamic studies, and his areas of expertise are Iraq, Iran and clerical authority in Shia Islam. He holds a master’s degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and a master’s degree in Islamic Studies from the Islamic College, London.

People living outside Iraq praise sodam as they have not experienced the atrocities done by him and his cronies. This is like supporting Mauvia and yazeed instead of Imam Hussain.

@@omarsafwan4209 If you lived in Iraq you only think that because you were the small minority who worked with him and benefited from his regime. If you do not live in Iraq you only think that because of the romanticized image of the random things he did to look good like when he sent a single bomb to Israel that ultimately did nothing. But behind that are all the horror stories of the time he let a lion loose towards some kids, let his son r3pe who ever he liked and truly too many to even say them all. He did good things like ensure that not a single drug ever passed the border but at what cost, having an entire civilian population living in fear of him? Incredibly egotistical man he would dedicate an entire week as his birthday all should celebrate.

It has become fashionable to say: "Regime change in Iraq 2003 was a bad thing". Yet, people forget to mention: Today, Iraqis can stage demonstrations & protest inside Parliament against their flawed corrrupted elected government of Iraq,,, Imagine, people could not protest against evil Sadam inside their homes in the past. No freedom of speech, religion & association pre-2003 Iraq, but post-2003, Iraq got democracy albeit flawed one, at least, Iraqis can easily exercise their cultural rights today. American invasion of Iraq was a blessing in disguise for iraqis including angry protesters of Iraq!

Yes, they can stage demonstrations and protests against the government BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS A LAME DUCK. Try criticising the Hashd, or Muqtada, or Sistani, or any of the supposed heroes of the past few years, see what happens to you. From one Saddam to a hundred Saddams. But yeah, you can criticise Soudani so all must great. As for your defence of the invasion, nothing needs to be said there.

Im Sunni and i dislike Saddam and his family. I remember watching a documentary where his forces destroyed the shrine/mosque of the Prophets grandson and were mocking the people inside the mosque.

What the people mean is that we have 50 Saddam and Udai and 50 Qusai, and amongst the different ethnic groups they are spreading lies and hate against each other, and that the result of the “democracy“ and free speech that the brother mentioned Iraqis have. At Saddam time if you didn’t get involved in politics then you where safe. You didn’t need to say goodbye for good every time you leave home. Salam alaikum.

yes. we do. economic now is the best era for iraq. the GDP is more higher from the sunni regeme. freedom now is the best now> i talk to you from iraq . the sunni regem befor our freedom in 2003 is more teroresim from da~ash(isis)>
