Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, which was one of the main reasons given by the USA, for the USA going into Iraq. Personally, I believe Bush #2 was trying to get Saddam for Bush #2's daddy from the first Gulf war, plus to try to get access to Iraq's oil, of which at the time, would have been most probably the second last nation to have oil remaining in that region based upon the current rate of production at that time. Since production had basically ceased for quite a time, it's possible that Iraq will be the last nation in that region to have oil. Armageddon, here we come. OR, we could move this world to utilizing PURE HYDROGEN and basically give up utilizing fossil fuels. We might even have less wars that way and less people suffering and dying. But then again, if we don't have a pro-active space program, we are all going to die one day anyway, forget everything we ever knew and experienced, and then be forgotten one day in future eternity as there won't be a conscious entity left to care we even ever existed at all much less whatever it was that we did and/or didn't do, or how much oil we had, or how rich or poor we were, or what kind of house we lived in, or car we drove, or job we had, or how many descendants we had. Nothing would matter one day as there wouldn't be a conscious entity left for anything to matter to. Choices people, we do have choices.

You have fallen prey to simplistic ideas. 9/11 was not conducted by Iraq but it did change the global conflict perspective. 9/11 demonstrated that terrorists would kill as many innocent civilians as humanly possible. The Saddam regime, given its past chemical weapons use, belligerent attitude and hatred of the West posed a significant risk to world stability.

+pongo But even you admit that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Go back in the media's history at that time. USA was trying to connect Iraq with 9/11. The USA and the coalition unjustifiably attacked a sovereign nation, (regardless how "evil" Saddam was). It seems you are the one falling prey to others ideas. And blaming Saddam regime as a risk to world stability, what about the methods that the USA has utilized that has caused others to hate the USA to begin with? (Including invading sovereign nations and locking people up without due process, ie: Gitmo).

+Charles Brightman clearly the unjustifiability is questionable given all the issues and concerns raised with regards to Iraq.

+pongo I personally believe you to be wrong. Bush #2 invaded Iraq as a preemptive strike, not for anything Iraq personally did to the USA at that time, and certainly not because Iraq was a part of 9/11, although that was one of the reasons given. The USA invaded a sovereign nation under false pretenses. Yes, Saddam was a bad dude, and yes the world might be better off without him being in it. (But then ask all the family and friends that have suffered and died during the invasion up until even today. I bet they might have a different opinion than yours). And even as you say that "the unjustifiability is questionable", then that would also seem to indicate that "the justifiability is questionable" too. I am asking some of those questions for both sides. At this time in the analysis, it appears that it was "unjustifiable", in the larger scope of things.

What is wrong with a pre emptive strike? You have fallen for the hindsight bias. As Blair made clear in this speech, given the intel, the facts and post 9/11 world he made a gamble to act rather a gamble to do nothing.

There is a lot that can be discussed about Saddam and the disaster that Iraq is today but Blair should be held to account along with our Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. They cherry picked highly questionable information that led to where we are today.

Yes Anthony you did lie. The report didn't say he didn't lie it said information was mishandled but they stated he acted in a sincere belief that Hussein had nuclear weapons. We also found out that he guaranteed to Bush that an invasion would happen six months before meeting with parliament when he said Saddam Hussein could still avoid it if he complied with the UN resolutions. The report found also that the war was not a last resort and that he ignored the advice of his own colleagues and kept the Attorney General out of key decisions. Don't believe a word he says. Tony Blair is a liar

pongo Yes they did. The September Dossier claimed that he had reconstituted his nuclear weapons programme. *"This includes biological and chemical weapons"* Yes, the one's that officials in the U.S. government helped him to procure like Donald Rumsfeld. Remember it was us who encouraged him to attack Iran? *" Iraq was already in breach of dozens of UN resolutions so there was no reason to expect him to comply in future."* I didn't say that he would.

@andrewwells6323
@andrewwells6323 8 жыл бұрын
pongo Honestly do you actually know much about the Iraq war? How did you get that from what I said? The Duelfer Report that the CIA worked on disproved the claims of the September Dossier and found that Iraq possessed no nuclear weapons and a small stock pile of chemical weapons. Too small to be a significant threat. Not a single being in the land still believes Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Not Blair, not Straw, not Campbell and certainly not the Chilcot inquiry.
@JasonPMartin

+Andrew Wells But you said he renewed his nuclear weapons program. So one would reasonably conclude he was trying to develop nuclear weapons capability. What then do you suppose the reason for war was?
@andrewwells6323
@andrewwells6323 8 жыл бұрын
pongo I didn't say that. I said the British government made the claim that Saddam Hussein was trying to reconstitute his nuclear programme. However that is not the case. As the Duelfer report showed. QED Blair lied.

They were supposed to be chemical weapons dimwit so how could he "launch them"? col Wilkerson and Powell agreed he had no chemicals and so did the U.N inspectors. Get you facts straight. By the way; next time you rely check your spelling_ It is not Speach. It's SPEECH. Try getting out more often.
