They are basically doing it the same way you'd see at a local strip for regular cars. They do it this way so that any car can race against any other car, by accounting for the differences in their speed.

This is so cool! I loved slot car racing back in the mid 60's. I was a teen and there were older men with all sorts of cars and kits, parts and controllers. As I recall we had 24th and 32nd scale cars. I know of no slot car parlors like this around where I live but I'll see if I can find one and try my hand at it again. The older gentlemen always beat me and as a kid I remember getting a little over excited during races and they would gently pull me back from the "edge." Everyone was so nice. These guys are having some serious fun. Wonderful!

As a kid (1960s) I was able to visit my local slot car center that had not 1 or 2 but 3 very HUGE and different 10 wides slot car tracks! Must have been about 100 yards in total of each track! ! had this incredible "LaMans" wall of death! The slot car track literally turned a total of 180 degrees within a 20 foot distance! It was something to behold! Friday and Saturday nights were for the groups of kids/parents that formed leagues! All manner of slot cars getting destroyed and kids/parents crying their eyes out at losing or even worse...flipping their cars into oblivion! It was a great time to be in the slot car hobby! This would be such a great opportunity for someone willing to grow the market! Kids of all ages just LOVE this stuff!

This is awesome! Spent a far amount of my teens racing, building, customizing slot cars. We had several tracks where I lived in Southern California, 1964-72.

what a fantastic hobby. I wish I could have thought of doing this when I was young. great way to spend time with like minded friends.

My brother in law had a hobby shop with slot car racing in the lat 60s-70s I used to go there as a kid and the 2 younger Brady bunch boys used to come in there, I didnt know these places still existed ,alot of fun you guys enjoy great memories.

As a kid in northern Indiana I remember going to a track with dragstrip on raceday (every Saturday).$1.00 per hour that you played I mean qualified. That turned into a link RC car racing on carpet ovals with my son later in life. Boy has more trophies and he could carry, at least did have! Good memories for sure !

Finally a decent drag car video. Great to see these guys full blown into 1:24 drag cars and thanks for showing their set-ups! Always great to see cool stuff. Great job slowly panning so we can see all those cool paint jobs. The best part is the passion that goes into each build here.

I started playing with slot cars when I was 12 (back in '63). It led me to full-size electric drag racing (NEDRA) and the development of electric motors for full-size vehicles like Black Zombie 222 (not mine, but one of my favorites...)

Bunch of pals built a 1/4 scale dragstrip in my buddies basement in 66 . Cars were all hand made from AMT MODELS . ALL motors, gears, tires and slicks were available from a slot car store in Midlothian, ILLINOIS. WE used a giant train transformer for power. Glad to see this is still being done ! All the racers are gone now, thanks to DOW Chemical!

Wow I could totally get into that ! I had a car in the 60”s my dad put together for me but I was to young , I remember I would put the cars back on the tracks when they crashed , I was small and able to get under the tracks really easy ! What a great bunch of guys ! Thanks for sharing

You guys are so lucky to have a place like that.I had a scaled down version close by when I was a kid it was set up in an old mill ..1/24 and h.o. Tracks.,I think it was .50 an hour track time.My mom would drop me off Saturday morning with $10. That would cover lunch too.

Amazing. We used to hitch, ride bikes whatever to get to the Tazz hobby store in Closter NJ in the 60s to run our slot cars. So cool to see it still exists

That’s just what I need, another hobby that I think would fun to dabble in. I would end up spending a ton of money and all of my time obsessing on. It does look like a lot of fun though and then people would fun to hang out with racing.

I miss this hobby and I wish there was a place locally with tracks like the ones these guys have.

Our local place in the 60s in Corpus Christi was called Big 8. My dad was involved in slot cars before I was born and built the first track out of fiberglass.

I had several AFX slot car sets back in the 70s. Made some badass monster tracks on our ping pong table in the garage every summer.

I had a nice collection of slot cars when I was a kid in Brooklyn in the early 1960s. Fast as hell these things are. Raced at the family hobby center on ralph Ave (or possibly Flatbush Ave, can't remember 55 years ago) in Bergen Beach /mill basin. Place was huge. Anyone remember it. Was next to Gil hodges bowling alley

My first slot car in the 60s was a little figure 8 set...I wish I stayed in, it would be a lot cheaper. Good way to practice cutting a good light, chopping down the tree.

Used to do our own rewinds--thicker wire for more torque, thinner wire for higher RPM. Be careful to have each wrap of the wire parallel to all the others. Balance the armature by setting it on two razor blades mounted in a block of wood. The armature would roll to the heavy side, so you took a little off of the arm with a drill. Set the magnets in closer to the armature by putting a layer or two of electrical tape between the can and the back side of the magnet. Other things.

As a kid I raced at Sebring on the corner of union turnpike and little neck parkway... I even got two trophy's for the midget races every Monday night. Honest fun.

They have a track in Cypress Ca. off Lincoln and east of Valley View.

I have officially now seen it all. Who would have that there would be this going on. Cheers.🇦🇺
