Many of the recent games have been won by Ireland by narrow margins in conditions (wet, greasy and huge support) that suited them more. I think the test will be to see how they match up against South Africa later in the year with conditions (altitude, dry, fast fields) that suit the Boks better. Ireland is a more structured, incredibly well-coached team where the sum of the individuals adds up to more than their parts. However, South Africa may have more X-factor players. The June tests are going to be epic. I can't wait. Loads of respect for Ireland.

😂 ireland play a very fast paced, handling and skill dependent game, the dry conditions suit them far better and are one of the fittest teams in wr. Also all 3 of South Africa's last games were all won by a point with the last being against a 14 man new zealand team 🤷‍♂️

@@user-is9of No need to be defensive. I was making a point, very respectfully of Ireland, that the games were close between the two sides. I was by no means arguing that the Boks WILL beat them when they travel and play the Boks at altitude. I think it will be a humdinger

Ireland have won the last 3 in a row against South Africa. All were played in dry conditions.

@@Dreyno not so. The game at the end of 2022 had damp conditions. I'm particularly referring to dry hard fields like Loftus Versfield in Pretoria. Anyway, talk between us counts for nothing. The two tests down here in SA will be epic 😀

Early 2000's new Zealand were the best rugby team in the world but failed to win 2 worldcups before they achieved that in new zealand. Ireland has beaten everyone, south Africa has failed to beat ireland in the last few years. World cups dont define who is the best in the world they define who is best in that tournament. As you seen some of those games could of went either way, it was who was better on the day. For me the best in the world is the most consistent over a few years not over 2 months.

The current Irish side are attracting a lot of negative comments not because of the players, not because of their style and not because of the management talking bullocks (because they are not- no Eddies here) but in the main because of their media. Well - not 'their' media, but the Irish media. Suddenly the pontifications from across the Irish Sea have become so portentous and self satisfied I thought Clive Woodward had infiltrated them. The Boks are officially numero uno, they have the WC and they have the rankings. Full stop, end of story. It's going to be a good summer - good luck to the lads in green (the emerald shade not the other one).

Hmm, NZ entered the tournament with the worst disciplinary record of all the top tier teams, and went down to 14 men because of that indiscipline … how does that exculpate them and make them the best? Also France beat the ABs comprehensively and the Boks beat the hosts France, at home, in front of a very large Gallic horde. You can’t just pick the last link in a causal chain.

Your coach is to blame. The ABS and SA rotated their squad through out the year and in the WC. Farrell doesn't trust his full squad and kept playing the same 23 the whole time. You lost the game vs NZ in the last 20. He needs to learn from the SH, you need 40 players you trust to win a WC

@@LeMerch even before the RWC existed, Ireland and all of the other european teams were manhandled by the All Blacks and SA, it was not even fair. Not even all of the british isles + Ireland could beat southern teams. Both NZ and SA have decades of successful history + world cups. Ireland has neither. And we are relaxed buddy, dont worry!

I took a look at the results of a few games and I think you're a little bit of an over exaggerator as well. Loads of games are pretty close. Most were actually. In the professional era.. Ireland have been squaring up to you lot for a while and the tide is turning but whatever. Enjoy your re-runs of those amazing 1960s and whatever other decade you enjoyed beating us in ;)

@@LeMerch Ireland never rested their players. The coach cost them a chance. Rassie and Nienaber are better managers than Farrell. His decision to build momentum caused the jelly legs at the end of the Quarter vs NZ. SA was still experimenting and rotating vs Ireland. In the RWC Final, the try that NZ was awarded, was from a knock-on/forward pass, they were lucky to be awarded the try.

Also, yes, Rassie and Nienaber are clearly better managers than Farrell. Farrell burned his players out and could have won the RWC if he didn't play the RWC like a long 6 nations. Rookie mistake leading his first RWC. Rasnaber were OBSESSED with how many minutes each player got, at both World Cups. Look whose players lasted until the end...theirs. Ireland, France, SA, and NZ were pretty even. But when it mattered most, SA delivered. You don't win a RWC in the Pool stage, a message Ireland hasn't got yet. If a held up try counts, SA would be crushing everyone since we concede too many. They don't count unfortunately.

Guys, I'm south African, the most consistent and successful team in the world is NZ , 2nd South Africa.... Yes SA have 4 and NZ 3 but consistently NZ have been the best over the past 30 years... Ireland have had a good 6 year run but history shows NZ are the best, SA 2nd .... Ireland are a force but you cannot say they are the best or 2nd best when they have not won a world cup, there history against NZ and SA is not great.... Give it another 20 years and we can see how they progress but 4 now looking back over the past 30 years they are not even in the top 5 ...
