Irish league is an amateur league as in the majority British islands

Nope. The amateur league in Ireland is split up into the Leinster senior league, Munster senior league and Ulster senior league. None of those leagues have any passage into the semi pro/professional leagues of the first division and premier division. Also, in the premier division I believe every club apart from UCD and Drogheda is fully professional and full time.

This is an astoundingly incorrect statement. There are several different associations that operate below the League of Ireland but not in a pyramid structure relation to the League of Ireland. The clubs in those assiciatoons operate at an amateur level. The League of Ireland clubs (20) however are split 50:50 into fully professional or semi professional. Some players may retain amateur status in the second tier of the League of Ireland but not in the top tier. UCD AFC is the sole exception as players are registered students but on full time Football scholarships.
