After Aaron sprains his ankle doing something stupid, Chris now has to learn to hook up and tow our new RV. Not to mention dumping the tanks as well!

My late husband and I had the same situation, he did the outside, I did the inside. Now I am about to do this alone in a small Class C. Years ago, I did travel in a Class A to dog shows and did all of it, but that was many years ago. It is a bit overwhelming to know I have to do it all by myself, but I know I can. Good girl Chris, it really isn't that hard. You did GREAT !

EXCELLENT hitching, driving, parking, and emptying tanks, Chris!!!! Congratulations! Definitely 10 out 10!!! Suggestion: Leave the caps on the sewer hoses until you are attaching to the RV and/or the septic tank because you never know if there may be a "surprise" inside the hose, and you don't want to be dragging and emptying the contents on the ground. Attach the hose to the RV first then the septic tank so that gravity can empty the "surprises" into the septic tank. Test your connections by emptying some of the gray tank first before the black tank. Once you have determined that your connections are secure, close the gray tank valve, empty the black tank, and then continue emptying your gray tray to help wash away the black tank fluids. Aaron, we are so sorry that your ankle has been hurt! Hope you are feeling better soon!!!

My son and I were put in a very similar situation this last year. Although he has driven the Class A pusher a few times, it was always with me beside him and when we would get close to home, I would back the coach and trailer into our very narrow driveway. I was hit by a falling tree and while leaping for my life, it caught my foot and crushed the smithereens out of it! He drove me into town with our extra van to the immediate care and left me at home. He later ran back up with a friend of his to fetch all our gear and equipment and loaded it on the trailer and drove it home. He said that he did chicken out and dropped the trailer and backed it in with the work van, then backed the motorhome in. It was quite the experience for all of us. I ended up losing about a 1/3 of my left foot a month later and here I am 5 months later returning to work. I just found your channel a few days ago and I really like it. You make a real cute couple and seem very knowledgeable about the content that you put out. I run snowcats and make videos on grooming snowmobile trails and other various items.

So sorry to hear about Erin‘s boo-boo! I am a solo woman Rver and I do everything inside and out and have for about 11 years now. I’ve been full-time five years. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve pulled into a campground and noticed men staring over the minute they see a woman pull in with a trailer. I even had some that bet whether or not I’d be able to park it lol. I am spot on never have any trouble backing my trailer. I have told many women over the last few years that they should learn to drive and park the family rig in the event of an emergency, unfortunately you just never know when something might happen. Please have safe travels and take care of yourselves.👍🏻❤️

My wife is clapping for you Chris. Bravo... About the RV; We always dumped the black water first, then closed the valve and then dumped the gray water afterwards. Also, we always put fresh water into the black water tank and dumped that again. We have always been advised to use more Aqua treatment, then they say. Aaron get well soon my friend.

Congrats Chris on your first time driving and backing. My wife and I have been practicing for situations just like yours. She has been driving but just recently has been trying to backup into a site. Practice comes confidence. Btw you should look into chocks as I don’t think xchocks are meant to be used as chocks. They are primarily for stability.
@aleksandrarkhipov1
@aleksandrarkhipov1 2 жыл бұрын
Tim, I completely agree with your comment about xchocks that they are not a replacement for normal chocks. The purpose of xchoks is to limit front-to-back motion. Also, they should be installed only after trailer was leveled and they should be removed before hitching.

Cameras are the best addition to campers for backing up and safe driving blind spot monitoring. I really love my camera even if it's from 1997 and viewable on a hilarious old black and white CRT that has massive contrast problems. First, GREAT JOB Chris !! Second, sprains can be worse than a break. One simple rehab trick I was taught in HS was to sit on the edge of table and trace the letters of the alphabet with my foot. Go through the alphabet deliberately tracing with your toes the letters. It is very simple and sounds kind of dumb but the movement really tests and works the strained ankle muscles. Add reps as you can. Several times would be great.

Oh so sorry you sprained your ankle. Been there. I tore all the tendons in right foot, the side to side motion. Hurts so bad! Doc said I had to be on crutches for 2 weeks and maybe I could ski in 3 weeks. One day on crutches trying to get around campus of a large university and I was done with that. I could limp just fine as long as it didn't slip on the snow. Ski resorts opened 3 days after I did it and the swelling had gone down enough that I could get my boots on. Taped it up, jammed it into the ski boots and skied. The boot kept it immobile and no pain at all, except on the lift when the weight of the boot and ski hurt (no chair bars back then). This was way back before the medical boots were around. Took a long long time to heal, but I skied all season with no problem. Definitely get a boot asap! You will be so glad. Congrats to Chris on your crash course. Definitely need to know each other's skills!

My wife and I have been RV'ing for 20 years, not full time but we travel across the country in our RV on vacations. She's a good driver and although I do most of the driving, I do trust her to help out along the way. We also tow with a Ford truck but we're in a 30' Grand Design. She also helps out with set up and tear down just to make the process quicker and more efficient. We enjoy your videos and are praying for a quick recovery and safe travels!

Backing up a single pwc trailer I gave up on the hand on the bottom of the steering wheel method. Problem is you’re turning the wheel a lot (when learning) that your hand doesn’t stay at the bottom. So now you’re thinking about your hands instead of the trailer. I found the side mirror method a lot easier. That is, when there is too much trailer in the mirror, turn the wheel towards that mirror to bring the trailer back behind you. Backing up straight the same can be done with the rear view camera. Which ever side the trailer starts to track off to, just turn the wheel in that direction a little to bring her back to center. Before long you won’t even be thinking about backing up, you’ll just be seeing the obstacles!

My husband got very ill during one of our trips in 2018. His fever would not go away and kept getting higher. When his fever 102 i was forced to pack up. Luckily, we had a friend camping nearby to help me hitch up. I could do it i just wasn't confident. I had towed before as I always drive out and he drives back. Made it home in time for him to go to the ER with a 105 and kidney infection. Bought a class C the following year so no more towing. Just jump in and drive. We switch off duties every other trip now.

Damn, that's rough. Seeing Aaron in crutches in the thumbnail actually made a twinge of nervousness crawl up my spine. Though watching the video and seeing that though he was hurt, but not crippled for life or anything, so he can and will make a full recovery, was a great relief. I also liked how you could see the nervousness in both Aaron and Chris' eyes when they started packing up and hitching up, that almost instantly went away when Chris got her practice in and confidently began driving to the next destination. We saw Chris drive 90% of the time in the van, so though the truck and trailer set up is a lot larger, longer and complex, it was just a matter of her adapting to the new parameters, and knowing she will be fine once she did just that. She of course was fine once the initial hurdles were overcome, and though I'm sure both she and Aaron will encounter some things in their travels that make them nervous again, they both seem to have the confidence to deal with it and jump those new hurdles too. It probably also, as both noted in the vid, a good idea to make sure both of them can do any and every part of this job, just in case something serious happened (again) so they are both ready to run the ship solo if need be. I don't know what Aaron will have to do to keep his cardio up to make sure he can do that marathon when the time comes, but since he is no slouch to fitness, and Chris is quite literally a professional, I'm sure you'll both figure it out. I think it shows their determination is already pretty solid, as if I screwed up my ankle I would just write off running that marathon and figure I would not be able to do it, and stat planning on trying to get in shape for it the next year. Not Aaron though. Anyway, I hope you heal up soon, Aaron, and that Chris does not find having to do both your duties too overwhelming, and that you both learn something good from this, and you both overcome it. You two seem like the type who when facing adversity, you overcome it and 10 years later you both can look back and laugh at how easy it was in the end.

Hi Chris and Aaron. Oh man....I am really bummed Aarons ankle got tweaked! The thing that was coming to mind for your whole video is that you two have your ultramarathon coming up. I wish you a quick and complete recovery. Meanwhile....Chris is knocking everything out of the stadium with the travel trailer!! Very awesome job; jumping in and doing all of that stuff! Ha...I did have to chuckle with the demonstrated body language when dumping the tanks. That was definitely a "I'm out of here at the sight of 1 drop of anything!" look. My wife drove for the first time (we're on our 3rd travel trailer) during our Van Halen sprint down and back from TX. That really helped coming back since we left our campground at 9:30 at night and drove all night to make progress towards home. Your video highlights that we should get out and get her some back up practice before it has to be "not for practice". About my only main concern, in the event she had to do everything, is that our Weigh Safe hitch is really heavy. On one of those days that I don't mind being called a jerk, I'll need to get her to do that setup at least once. Otherwise, we too have divided most normal tasks between inside and outside. Fast recoveries and I wish you two some fun boondocking!

Heal well Aaron, Chris I had no doubts that you would step up and do great! Thanks for the kudos to solo campers! As a solo camper, I try real hard to travel light, but always seem to have too much stuff to pack and unpack. Getting better at it though. It's just that I like having options, bike, kayak, small tent, multiple ways to cook, etc. So my challenge is making a decision at the very beginning of planning my trip as to what my goal is for the trip, and sticking to it. That makes packing easier and cuts down on the options. Deciding what are my must haves and extras but not necessary, cuts down on the volume and complexity of the trip. Check lists are a must! Travel safe, be well.

Thanks Mike! Yes, Rving can be tough to master for sure and it's defiantly harder as as a solo camper. Sounds like your getting it down though ! 😊

Hi, I learnt to drive on a tractor with a trailer attached. The hardest thing for me was reversing in a straight line. Taking my time initially and thinking ahead before manoeuvring helped. I will say when it came to taking my driving test it was a piece of cake. Parallel parking a car after doing the same with a tractor and trailer not really a problem. It’s always good to cross train for just such reasons but it’s also good to gain an appreciation for each other’s roles. I must admit I wouldn’t be going near the dump process without a set of gloves 😁.

I strongly suggest if you have the time to get your ankle x-rayed and examined this is a time for healing and you need to take it very seriously it will affect you the rest of your life. Depending on the severity.

I absolutely LOVE the documentary approach you took to the beginning of this video!!! Love, love, love it! You guys make such a great team. This is probably my favorite video of yours so far. The technical aspects of the video show how much you've grown into your channel and what you do; it's so fun to watch you expand your horizons and learn... you're taking this channel to new levels all the time. The music is fun, the cuts and footage are so good, really fun to watch. "I don't need to wiggle." Ha! Good job, Chris! This is all so easy when you've done it a hundred times... doing it for the first time can be intimidating. 😉😅 This is the only time I can remember in my life where I haven't given anyone crap about saying "Xcapers" (or "exscape"), and only because I was paying attention to the logo! HOWEVER... I feel compelled to mention that it IS "Escapees", not "Excapees" (it said it in the logo, again... that's like saying "irregarldess", OMG!🤨). This was a great watch! All-around, you guys are growing and putting out such good content. I really appreciate what you do! Thanks for sharing your travels with us all.

10/10 😎 I wish you well in recovery, it took me months, but mine turned blue all the way up to my knee. Someone dug a hole and put the grass back in a football field, we were playing flag football and I found the hole 🤕 my RV was supposed to be delivered this month, Winnebago moved it to May. Like Vickie, my wife passed away from cancer last year, so heading out alone to create some new memories. Keep the great content coming and good luck on the Ultra!

Nice job! I have small hands and it's very difficult to get a good grip on the sewer fittings. I use wrenches to remove the sewer drain cap and also to tighten and disconnect the stinky slinky hose. Less stress! Aaron, so bummed for you. Recovery time is so important, and so difficult! Heal well.

Hey Chris - a little tip for your Anderson WD Hitch. Leave the chains tight, keep your caliber lock onto the ball, with your Jack raise the ball past your normal release height until the chains go loose. Then unpin your plate and chains, then lower your ball back down, remove the lock on the ball and proceed to unhitch. Does that make sense? Couple of decent KZfaq videos demonstrating my advice. But long story short you should only adjust your chains tight, then you should not have to adjust ever again (spot check).
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 2 жыл бұрын
We did see that technique on YT and did that for the first few months… but it was always difficult. Had to raise the camper extremely high to get slack in the chains and then taking the plate off and putting it back on were always very difficult with getting the pin out and in. A lot of people commented to try this way…. That was the first time and was quite a bit quicker and easier. Maybe it’s tough because our hitch height is 32 inches and the the truck is tall as well……

@@IreneIronTravels good to know. We are actually getting ready to go pick up our new 22FQS. We maybe following your lead then. We have the new F150 Tremor , so a similar setup but no quite so high.
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 2 жыл бұрын
Nice setup you’ll have! Yeah, it just seemed like the tongue jack was screaming and stressing lifting the truck high enough to loosen the chains. We’ll see if it’s easier with a larger ratchet. Or maybe a combo of lifting it slightly to release some pressure.

Wow, great job Chris!!! John and I have the same arrangements, he does the outside I do the inside. But we were at a Thousand Trails in San Diego and John forgot his driver's license and I had to park our trailer. We went up the wrong road, and I had to back all the way down the hill. Scared me to death. Then I had to back into the spot. I had Johns's great guidance and did it on the first try. But I really like doing the inside lol Aaron I hope you feel better soon, but don't rush it, take your time and get better. You are a great team, have fun and enjoy the rest

A good reason for both of you to be able to do all the functions of driving, backing up, etc. I'm sure you will do well by taking your time and go slow.
