There's a reason why you don't see funk covers on your feed as often as slowed down acoustic. It's because this shit is difficult to do well. Funk bands are all about each player playing a subtle line with extreme precision. One of my favorite parts about funk is that for the band to succeed, they almost HAVE to do a little dance to keep time. It takes so much energy to put forth precise subtlety, and at the end the total is greater than the sum of it's parts, and suddenly the audience is moving their feet while watching a little video on their phone a thousand miles away from where this video was filmed. Idk it's all just beautiful

It was an insane night: Stanley Clarke got up on stage to replace John Pattatucci on bass, they played old Return to Forever songs. Then Alicia Keys stands up, two tables away from me (I hadn't noticed her, had been minding my own business) and does a song with Chick (just her and Chick). Chad really lives the life lol.

Such engaging, subtle sounds and textures in this, including Laura's very subtle vocal riffing. Well done. Also, Laura's small rearrangement of the lyrics in the second chorus - "everything feels to be broken" - works out rather well :)

First of all, loved this cover. Great modern pop take with some funky bass lines thrown in there. Laura Elliott, amazing voice. Second, these skits are getting really good. This one and the one at the end of Ain't No Mountain are both excellent.

this was the first video I watched of Scary Pockets, I must say most other ones the singer only sings a generic pop style in funk, but this singer additionally does the vocals in funk, and i think that's significant.

Never a harsh vocal on these recordings. Probably has to do with the mics, but also the mix engineer is great. Sometimes it sounds like the slap back delay has more top end than the dry vocal. Stuff like that make the sound brighter without adding harshness. I'd love some tutorials.
