A journey with my motorbike aboard the Irish Ferries Fast Ferry, the Dublin Swift, from Dublin / Baile Átha Cliath to Holyhead / Caergybi.
To see the outward journey aboard the Economy Class Ferry mv Epsilon, please see: • Irish Ferries Epsilon ...
We go through the journey through Dublin Port to the check-in booth, boarding, and the on-board passenger experience before disembarkation in Holyhead.
Having spent the weekend helping my friend settle into his new flat, I looked forward to a relaxing return journey, and it was indeed far more comfortable than the crowded outward journey.
I had paid £80 for the ticket, which represented a £25 premium over the cost of the regular ferry.
We were due to dock at 1030, yet it was 1100 before any announcement was made to inform us of an hour's delay due to engine failure. There was no mention of any refund of the premium, and I guess that is a chance you take when you pay extra to travel aboard the fast ferry service, as any mode of transport can be late.
I did not see where dogs and cats are transported, but they are not allowed in the passenger spaces (except Assistance Dogs, of course).
For more info on the craft, see www.irishferries.com/uk-en/sh...
The following music tracks were used in the production of this video (in order):
A Dusty Road
That's My Wave
Sunday Plans
Stale Mate
That's My Wave

Just come back from Ireland and used the new Dublin Swift for the first time. Never got to sail on the original but my first impression of the new ship was impressive. Comfortable sailing, swaying halfway over the Irish Sea which is expected. Car deck a bit tight, great food, comfortable seating. But overall really enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be using Dublin Swift again in the near future

We travelled on the Dublin Swift in June. We booked before this boat replaced the Jonathan Swift and paid extra for specific seats which of course didn't exist on the new boat. No refund for that either! And we were also an hour late but that was due to it being foggy I think so no compensation for that either. Nice enough ship but to be honest I think the Jonathan Swift was better.

I'm looking to travel from Liverpool to tipperary with my wife later on in the year. It was a trip my mum and dad did together when they got married back in the 60's. Sadly my dad isn't here to watch me follow in his footsteps but my mum thinks it's an awesome idea. I'm hoping to find the exact location of a milage sign that my parents took just to prove to the people back home that they managed to travel from Liverpool to tipparey on a lambretta.

Mate, I love this. Great photography. I live in Dublin overlooking the bay. Everyday I see the ferries arrive and leave, regular as clockwork. Since March we're all stuck on this little island, and as much as I want to, I can’t get on any of those ships !! However, we’re safe and healthy. Please post more travelling by sea stuff (you may have loads already, I’ve yet to trawl through your archive). Thank you, I love every detail of your ship experiences.

Thanks Ivan! As I live in the Hebrides most of my ferry content is CalMac, but there are a few international trips there too. Just not as many as I'd like, as my options for taking my dog Dougal with me up on deck (he stresses if left in the car) are very limited. On this trip he stayed home. Cheers!

I amazed myself Dave, it wasn't too bad at all. I broke the journey plenty (helped by the 100 mile range!) and when possible would take my right hand off the throttle and wring it out a little. What's even more incredible is that that is with a 2 into 1 exhaust! Just lucky I guess - I have to get SOME good stuff to make up for the bloody migraines!

Dougal at the door -- what a wonderful greeting and welcome home. Do you wear leathers for the safety or the protection from the elements or is it both? In 27 years of fire and EMS I have seen people who laid a bike down in jeans, and it wasn't pretty.
@andrewjditton
@andrewjditton 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, mainly safety. Especially on this 800 mile round trip. It wasn't fun when the temperature hit 32 centigrade on the way home, but I don't fancy the consequences of a tumble without the protection.

Worst crossing ever on this vessel shortly after it's debut. I think the high sided catamaran design is just not good in bad weather. At one point, I wasn't alone in thinking we were about to capsize. Nowadays, Irish Ferries seem to have no problem standing down the Swift at the first sign of bad weather.
@simonhackett4471
@simonhackett4471 5 жыл бұрын
You are lucky it was just late, the number of times we have turned up for the swift and it was cancelled, usually some reason given, but I think they just put you on the Ulysses if they don't have the numbers to justify the fast boat and big boat running together. We normally travel out of season, it happens a lot. Never got a refund on the premium for the fast service. Stenaline all the way, yep its longer. Last time I come home on a bike I bought in England I got the ferry Fishguard to Rosslare, got a cabin, it is a long one but the cabin had TV, and tea and coffee. The dog situation is terrible on all the Irish sea crossings. I just can't recommend Irish Ferries other than you need a 2hr crossing, and hoping that it runs.
@andrewjditton
@andrewjditton 5 жыл бұрын
It's crazy, it would only take ONE operator to offer a couple of dog-friendly cabins (like Brittany Ferries) or a dog-friendly lounge area (like CalMac) and they'd clean up on the canine traffic on the Irish Sea.

Hi Roger, this was shot mostly on a Sony FDRX3000 either attached to the helmet or in the palm of my hand. Other footage was with the Canon G7X and a couple of 'quick' shots with the iPhone 7 Plus. No gimbal was used! I have a posh gimbal for my Sony A7Sii that I used for some exteriors of the Adria Launches a few weeks back.

Thanks Andrew. I have an old Canon EOS 20D not used in years & abandoned my iPhone for a Samsung Note with which I check my blood-sugars (without blood) using the Libré app & a sensor. TMI. When you walked up the stairs on the ferry-though it must be a gimbal since the camera did not go up & down! Enjoy your vlogs-sorta vicarious adventuring whilst our 5 year old Hymer is having cambelt replaced-bit of a swizz-only 8000 miles BUT with Fiat has to be done every 70000 miles OR 5 years! Love this video but, Irish Ferries con you into going on the slow boats if even 1mph wind because of “adverse weather” In relation to losing one of the engines, same thing happened on Stena this year on a slow crossing taking over 4 hours to go the other way to you and no apology at all or refund!
