Irish history with Pat Flannery. This was filmed 4/2/07. Pat gives a fascinating account of the larger than-life 16th century personality - Gráinne Mhaol (anglizied as Grace O'Malley), also known as "The Sea Queen Of Connemara".

Gráinne Mhaol deserves her own film.

I had never seen these before, but was interested in learning more about Grainne after hearing about her in a song I was listening to. I absolutely love to learn, so videos like this are some of my favorites. Her story is fascinating. Anyone who stumbles upon this old video, watch it. ALL of it. It's long, but you will be glad you did.

Wasn’t her name actually Gráinne Ui Mháille? Mhaol was a nickname.

Ní Mháille. "Uí" implies marriage to that family and "Ní" implies born of that family. M(h)aol means "bald" as legend has it shed shaved her hair in order to travel with the pirates on the ships without risking injury.
