🇮🇪 Irish republican leader Gerry Adams retires

One of the most famous faces in Northern Ireland is retiring.
Gerry Adams was considered spokesman for the Irish Republican Army in its 30-year war to end British rule of Northern Ireland.
The boy from Belfast became active in Northern Ireland's civil rights movement in the 1960s.
Since then, he's played a pivotal part in the peace process.
The Sinn Fein leader for 34 years is being replaced by Mary Lou McDonald, who has no links to the conflict.
Al Jazeera's Nadim Baba reports from Dublin, Ireland.

Sinn Fein wasn't the political wing of the IRA. They worked closely and supported each other, but they were separate groups

In the context to which this video is referring, it's pronounced Leinster House, only Free Staters and Brit Féin call it Dáil Éireann.

The Foreigner (2017) movie had Pierce Brosnan portraying a Gerry Adams charactrer whose wife and mistress bettayed him and he was cussing like a crazy Irishman could not hold back my laughter through the while movie.

@Jack the Film Fanatic we don't pay Money for water. And the republic has a higher GDP per Capita and higher wages then NI, so your economic argument is wrong. People are better off in the republic than in NI, this is a economic fact.

You didn’t personally experience any of that. We respected democracy and gave Ireland freedom, and created Northern Ireland so that they could remain in the UK as they wished. Innocent people that had no control over what happened were killed

@@rosspatterson1233 it was not democracy that freed the South of Ireland it was the Irish War of Independence fought by the IRA from 1919 - 1921 You need to do some research on Irish history

As someone who often visited Birmingham City Centre pubs and Clubs before the pub bombings, I for one will be glad not to see Adams on TV anymore. I hope he has a long retirement, time to consider his past and the lives that were lost and his part in the Troubles.

What a pity you never visited places like the Bogside, Ballymurphy, New Lodge etc. nor spoke to people such as the surviving members of the Miami Showband. You might have a more rounded opinion then. But do carry on with your sticking your head in the sand and believing that the Brits were good ol boys whose hands aren't soaked in the blood of innocents either directly (i.e. they shot those innocents themselves) or indirectly (collusion with Loyalist death squads).

If the Brits had never invaded Ireland and completely denied every human right of the majority of the population in the country in the first place there would have been no fighting for the likes of Adams to support but work away with your revisionist nonsense.
