Road bowling is in Connecticut too. Tournament in Hartford this weekend put on by the Hartford AOH

I grew up in Cork where this is played mostly in Ireland and the betting that goes on is crazy. Also, it's not uncommon to hear of someone getting hit with the bowl and suffering a broken bone. And people out driving can get their cars got, which would leave a dent.

Thought bowling as in howling as they call it in cork was an individual sport
