Bravo Mike! I just finished watching this and as usual, your professionalism and all around "cool-headed" candor, (along with some excellent questions) made for yet another great Karolyi interview. Like I've mentioned to you before, your interviews on CCC were always a highlight for me and the station. I took and learned some cues from you. Your patience and over all sincere interest in the artist or bands was always a bit of a model for me in my career. Cheers brother.

Is anyone bothered with Danny Goldberg’s talk of suicide not been preventable? I don’t think that’s a productive message and deeply dislike that society should just shrug off people killing themselves because it’s a “mystery“.

Hello Mike Karolyi! You are one of the very few REAL rock media legends left these days! :) I appreciate your longevity in the game, you're one of the all-time greats in rock media! #Salute :) But I gotta be honest, too honest for KZfaq but anyways... Im insanely jealous of the fact that you were graced with the opportunity to wonderfully chronicle the story and evolution of "rock n roll" during the most interesting time in music history, but I didnt get that chance. :/ lol This is one of those rare "capivating indepth interview" videos that only come around one in a Blue Moon, excellent work! You asked great questions and Mr. Goldberg gave insightful answers. This video should have waaaaaaay more than 135 views... I guess Rock N Roll really is dead. :(

The other thing was the whole Kurt Cobain - Billy Corgan - Courtney Love - Love Triangle. The first thing an artist wants to do in this situation of his marriage breakdown is to write about it. He even was planning further collaborations with Micahel Stipe. Overdosing on Rhepanol like people do - Hmm.. This if anything he would OD on Heroin - so many inconsistencies Danny - " I love you Kurt" but can we rewrite your will so i can get more money Goldberg " he was dead a week later " (shrug)

Kurt penned a handwritten letter to alt-rocker, Juliana Hatfield, dubbed the 'Alt Pop Princess' who's actually a prolific songwriter, feminist, and survivor of depression and suicidal thoughts (read her book). Kurt praised her song, "Nirvana", as well as Danny Goldberg, for being one of the few trustworthy people in the music business in that letter to her. Juliana recently claimed Danny's departure from Atlantic records led to her own departure from the label. Danny reduces himself to being a long-haired guy trusted with Led Zeppelin, so maybe he continued being the down-to-earth, long-haired guy in a corporate setting, when trusted with Nirvana? Selling a book about Kurt on the 25th anniversary of his suicide is gross marketing, but it's the way things are done.

What he is not mentioning is that even before Nevermind was released Nirvana had a huge buzz and was getting very popular in the larger club scene. They were getting up to $10,000 per show. There was a huge bidding war between labels to sign Nirvana. They knew times were changing and when bands can consistently sell out shows they are a good bet.

A question to those old enough in the early 90's to witness the height of Nirvana's fame; Did Kurt (while still alive) have the same impact and reach Eminimem had on popular culture and on the wider mainstream audiences a few years later? I somewhat doubt it but please feel free to prove me wrong
@a.mnmemories4289
@a.mnmemories4289 5 жыл бұрын
That's hard to gauge, when Nirvana broke, they were everywhere, and it ushered in not just a different style of music, but fashion, ideals, it also made it okay to be who you were, it was all of a sudden cool to be different. Eminem's impact can't be denied of course but Nirvana was a revolution. It's hard to explain something like that.

Both were huge. I was young (9) when Kurt passed but I do remember the impact on culture. Everyone wore flannel or flannel patterned plaid because of him. I saw Eminem's rise in the late 90s/early 2000s and it was quite amazing and intense.

@alphabravo431
@alphabravo431 5 жыл бұрын
Easily. way beyond Eminem. So much so that I actually don't think that's not a very good comparison. It wasn't just Kurt and Nirvana, although they were at the forefront 'commercially', it was an entire movement that took place. It would be much more accurate to compare it to the 2nd wave of rap/hip and the movement between 1980 - 1990. Rappers like Run DMC, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys etc. A new wave of music in the air, rather than just pinpointing one particular artist.

Love Nirvana love the Foo Fighters but I never thought that Krist and Dave were a great match for Kurt’s band. Krist and Dave are not punk rock to me or have that edge for or to be punk rock but Kurt did. It was something about Kurt that people were attracted to. That raw real ness about him. He wasn’t fake. Dave never had the impact that Kurt did. Kurt Cobain was influential and something was special about him. I also think that Dave was a little envious of Kurt and the way people responded to him.
