Iron Eyes Cody as the crying Indian in Stop Pollution, Keep America Beautiful 1970s commercial. Classic commercial PSA for the Keep America Beautiful campaign. The only dialog in this commercial says "People start pollution, people can stop it." This ad really started public awareness about pollution and rightly villainized a person who would throw their trash out of their car window. This ad won two Clio awards and helped reduce litter by 88% in much of America. Cody did a few of these commercials. I was in elementary school when i first saw this commercial and i still remember it today as I'm 59 years old now and Thanks for the Memories.🇺🇲💞🇺🇲

I remember this on TV as a kid in the 1970’s. Always wondered where that guys was paddling. Everywhere we went we saw beautiful lakes and rivers. I wanted to find that guy and go paddling with him to see that.

who grew up in 70s and do not remember this? It was shown on TV all the time. So he was Italian? Big deal. He was a ACTOR.

Yes, he was an actor… that sold himself as being Native American. He was paid by the Studies as a expert advisor on Native American traditions for films. He even lived in a Tipi for a while. Reality was that he was a first generation Sicilian American. Even the tear streaming down his face on that commercial was fake… it was glycerine. 🤣😂. No, he ripped the studios off (that’s called fraud) by selling himself as something he was not and making money off the lie. He was a crappy actor too.

Yes I remember this I never forget this one, when I see grown men stop in a car with their kids in it and throw garbage out In the street, the big picture of it makes me sick. It's a sin.

I assume he would not have gotten all the native American roles if he was known to be Italian.

These are so hilarious. So 1970s silly. This was back when they were scaring people telling them the next Ice Age was upon us. (Like Global Warming today)

Iron Eyes Cody was not an Indian, He was of Italian decent.

And the Indians were not deep spiritual mystical keepers and respecters of the land. They burned down forests and fields with wildfire to flush out game and would stampede buffalo over cliffsides to kill whole herds to get what they wanted from the hides. They slaughtered and mutilated their fellow man, red man, brown man and white man alike and did unspeakable things as part of their culture and worldview. Glad they don’t have to live that way anymore. The counterculture of the 1970s is a silly joke and PSAs like this are a reflection of it.
