West Ham badge because Steve Harris the founder of Iron Maiden is a huge West Ham fan, he was asked to trail for them when he was 16 but decided to focus on music instead. He still plays amateur football. And he named the band after a film adaption of The Man in the Iron Mask which reminded him of the iron maiden torture device.

When I saw Maiden live in Dublin the atmosphere was fantastic. They were on the Dance of Death tour but for the encore they did 'Fear of the Dark, Run to the Hills and Number of the beast and the whole place erupted. EVERYONE was on their feet singing along and having a blast, it was a monumental night and I was so happy at getting to witness and participate in two of my favourite Maiden songs.

The rime of The ancient mariner live (flight 666) is a must see! 🙂

Definitely one of their iconic songs. A couple of years ago I was in Finland for the first time, and a couple of friends and I went to a small club in Helsinki for a show of a different band. I vividly remember being by the stage waiting for the show to start and hearing this song come over the speakers.

Iron Maiden is my favorite band. I've been on board since 1982. First live show - Cambridge Corn Exchange, 1990. I hesitated to suggest Iron Maiden to you guys because I figured all Brits knew them. I would now suggest The Clansman, live version. Great song and the band has even more energy and fun.

Aside from Bruce Dickinson, who was born in Worksop, and Janick Gers, who I believe is from Hartlepool, the band are from various parts of London. Also, the band's loving slogan of 'Up the Irons' was taken from West Ham's 'Up the Hammers' as Steve Harris is a huge fan. The band name was taken from the torture device.

This comes from their Flight 666 documentary. Where Bruce, the lead singer, piloted the plane and he did so because it was the only way to go to the places he did on that tour. I HIGHLY recommend the documentary.

Great stuff guys, thanks so much for doing this for me. iron maiden are more than rock royalty they are the godfathers of heavy rock. i saw them live a couple of years back in nottingham and the energy from the crowd was just insane,everybody was just so happy,there was no violence or trouble just everyone enjoying themselves. they come from an era that i dont feel will ever be replaced or re-created, nobody is coming up through the ranks for when these guys hang up the guitars so enjoy them whilst you can. if you thought this was a mental crowd just wait until you have my next request..................its a blinder. keep up the good work guys,im going to enjoy taking you on my musical journey. When I first started getting interested in British football, I watched West Ham because of Iron Maiden. Granted it was 1983....then I watched BBC and found my forever team in 1984. Great reaction lads.

I'm so glad you reacted to Iron Maiden. I've been a huge fan of theirs since the early 80's. Top notch musicians that are highly skilled at their craft. And a lot of their lyrics are very educational too. For example, I would have never even heard of the Crimean War if it wasn't for the song, "The Trooper". Which, by the way, should be the next Iron Maiden song you react to from this same exact concert, Rock In Rio 2001.

Just to give you a bit of background to this gig, which might explain why Maiden fans revere it so much. Adrian & Bruce left the band in 1990 & 1993 respectively. There's no denying the fact that creatively, and as a live spectacle, Maiden suffered in the later part of the 90's with the new line up. Bruce & Adrian rejoined in 1999 and they recorded the 'Brave New World' album in 2000, which this setlist was based on. In the 90's, Maiden were playing in smaller venues and I think its fair to say ticket sales were not as they should have been. Bruce & Adrian rejoined at the same time, and it was like all our prayers were answered. Considering the previous few years, seeing Adrian walk out on his own to start 'The Wickerman', in front of a quarter of a million people, it was unbelievable stuff. To hear/see such a big crowd absolutely take the band to their hearts was magical. Maiden have always been big down in South America, but this show really cemented things. They can easily sell out 50k seater stadiums 2,3,4 nights in a row now.

After this song, we had to use our t-shirts to cover mounth and nose because the dust you can see above tbe crowd. This dust is due to the field. Amazing!!!

Steve Harris, the bassist, is a lifelong Hammers fan. That’s where Iron Maiden got their famous “Up the Irons!” Catchphrase. Most people quote it and have no idea where it came from. By the way, these guys aren’t Brummies. Black Sabbath and Judas Priest are the Brummies.

Steve Harris is a known West Ham fan. They even have gear with Iron Maiden logos on west ham kits you can buy.

And bruce is an over achiever who makes everyone seem lazy by comparison. Not only is he a lead singer in this group, he was a commercial pilot, auther, was close to qualifying for the olympics in fencing, part owned the worlds largest airship and has a few kids and mrs somewhere around too.
