This song is sorely underrated!

You have no idea how many years i sang this as "Judas my bride! Always by my side!" ... Some of us are just willfully ignorant. I think your reading was correct: in an evil world, turning the other cheeck might not be a great solution. Your guides are not your leaders, who lie or coddle you, but your enemies.

I took the lyrics to mean; if Judas could betray his good friend and savior so easily, maybe it shouldn't be so hard for us to betray this wicked society.

@Brad After Dark They are not a dark band by any means! Small horror aspects do not cultivate dark satanic people. Ozzy is another misunderstood die hard Christian. Though he had substance issues etc- Iron Maiden did not have the stories & rumors floating around as others did. Remember- "Don't judge a book by it's cover- or an album by it's sleeve, or band by it's posters/shirts- shall we say? Fyi: Metal bands are often cleaner & nicer than many others out there- So do not be too quick to assume... ☮

When I was in high school I saw those Iron Maiden album cover images on T shirts and all over but had no idea what the actual music sounded like. This goes into the "heavy metal" category of music. They were known as "dirt heads" in some circles. They would tend to like other groups like AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Led Zeppelin, etc. In the other camp there were "mods", "punkers", "goths" and "newros" (new romantics) that were all into the newer phase of music. There would be no overlap of socializing. The fashion sense and personality types of each group were very different. I liked Jimi Hendrix and some AC/DC but otherwise was into new music. Later out of high school I got to appreciate Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath more. Even today I'm still not a fan of "heavy metal" from the 80s. "Hair metal" was always horrible then and now. In the late 80s the first fresh "metal" type band that got big was Guns and Roses. They had some hair metal aspects to them but otherwise very gritty and not cheesy sounding. Then Jane's Addiction came around definitely in the "alternative" camp but also a heavy "metal" sound as well mixed in there. Then eventually metal influences seeped more and more into alternative until it culminated in grunge during the early 90s. And then alternative became mainstream!
