@@DokktorDeth Ah yes Mark King. I'm not a huge fan of Level 42 so he did not come to my mind but you are right, he is a real master. Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath is also often overlooked.

@@Trygvar13 Agreed; the problem is that bassists tend to be in the shadow of leads (Blackmore especially comes to mind, and loads of others in HM) but I'm a fan of Geezer, (and of course Jack Bruce and Geddy Lee as multi-talented artists in their own right). I'm not an L42 aficionado, their type of music is usually too 'safe' for me; I much prefer something with more of an edge to it, hence the metal thing.

This is exactly why Maiden don't do thatmuch interviews: the showhosts don't understand one tiny bit of their music. How great a legend Steve is amongst the best bassplayers around the world. How it is to play that kind of shows above the age of 60. Maiden have consistently played heavy metal for more than 45yrs and have a HUGE worldwide fanbase! And they always stayed faithful to their music and fans. No compromises! Up the Irons!

Back in the 80s, my buddies and I waited out back by the tour buses after one of their shows. Everyone blew past us as they exited except Steve Harris. He stopped to say hello and let us take pictures. I wanted to be Steve Harris at the time. When I got my picture with him, my grin was so exaggerated, I ruined the picture. I'll always remember how nice he was with our little group.

It's so typical of such clueless interviewers showing surprise when heavy metal musicians are actually very calm, collected and not the bunch of loud and obnoxious monsters they're expecting. And yeah...no mention of his bass playing and of the fact that he's the founder and the principal songwriter of Maiden. He's a legend for conducting himself so gracefully in the face of this pair of donkeys.
