He lives near me and when I worked at my local cinema he would come in regularly with his family,I would never bother him (how however much I wanted to) because he was with his kids,but I remember around the time that Bruce released chemical wedding he came in to watch that 90’s Godzilla film and afterwards he wife has left her purse in the screen,he came back and I went and got it..I said I was a massive fan and that I really enjoyed chemical wedding we had a nice chat and I off he went,I thought that was it. 10 minutes later he comes back and gives me a chemical wedding promo wind breaker thing that he had in his car and signed it for me. I'm quite tired of the overlong shit... - It was cool when it was around 7 minutes and you had the even longer standouts like "Rime", but now it's just a drag. I've been a fan for 20 years and a musician for almost as long, but these longer ones tend to feel more like they're trying too hard to "be epic" now. Ironically, it was the reason why I loved Maiden, I wasn't much into the shorter hits like (the cliché "Run to the Hills") and such, still am not as much, and rather the more progressive and expansive storytelling kind of stuff. But you can really overdo things, like movies and series can be too long as well. - And the fact that they have to stuff it all onto two CDs or three Vinyl records is kind of hilarious and a bad sign to me. - But that's my personal experience. I'm also not your typical fan who thinks "more is better". I'll see if there's anything good in it, I never write things off without trying, but ugh... It's just an investment of time and energy now.

I do like complex, long songs like Blind Guardian tend to do, and my favorite Maiden song is in fact Paschendale (almost 9mins), but with some of the longer Maiden songs I get the feel they are just long because they didn't dampen them down to their essence. A lot of repetition, I don't think a song benefits from just having more verses/choruses. Having said that, I thought that Writings sounded pretty fresh for Maiden standards and therefore I'm still interested in the new album, even if a bit worried about the lenght.

They are the artist and can express themselves as long as they want. If you don't like it then it's just not your thing. They don't owе you anything. If you like shorter songs go listen to the punk rock music. Most of the songs in this genre are like minute and a half long.

@@spyro2386 I love The Book Of Souls but all the 90s albums are weak IMO. Especially No Prayer For The Dying and Virtual XI. Fear Of The Dark and X Factor are passable but still not that good IMO. However, I think all the reunion albums have been good (or better) and in the band's current format, I doubt that Senjutsu will be an exception.
