Iron Man’s story mirrors and develops the myth of the Greek god of the forge, Hephaestus. In this video, we will learn more not only about the archetype of the Wounded Craftsman, but also about ourselves as mortals living in the technological fantasyland of the 21st century.
The stories of Iron Man and Hephaestus reveal the dual nature of trauma. Trauma is an elemental force that can be a drive toward greater self-understanding, but also towards a downward spiral of self-destruction. Usually, it is both.
Our great hero stories, from the epic of Gilgamesh, through the Passion of Christ, to the adventures of Spider-man - they all teach us man’s freedom and power to transform and be transformed by his suffering.

I don't have the words to describe how cathartic this video has been to me. You have captured and expressed the relationship between trauma and what a human being does to process and overcome it, only to create more trauma for him/herself as a result of that very effort. "Trauma destroys us by empowering us and empowers us by destroying us", I can not agree more. This has rung so true with me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
