MT was always a joy to watch playing rugby, hard to think of anyone with greater passion or driving commitment for the game on or off the field. He also scored tries, but his greatest strength was supporting the pack, quite simply he was always conspicuously THERE. Opposition teams must have found him a fucking nightmare to play against. Pivotal player in the great England era of Winterbottom, Skinner, Dooley, Richards, Bayfield, Ackford, Probyn, Hall, later Rodber etc....They never did issue Probyn with properly fitting shorts, or Richards with socks that stayed up.

Aah, you can't have everything, some shorts for Probyn is good enough!

What a player…the first of those big, strong and fast backrowers who at 6, 7 or 8 would get the job done….would thrive in todays game

Was at an After Dinner speech in Ayrshire and Lions Captain of the 89 winning tour and hard Bastard Finley Calder said that Mike Teague was quite simply the best forward he had ever seen.

Great little sketch. I remember 'iron Mike' sorting out the Aussies in '89. Did not go down well with the Aussie press!😅

Ill never forget the sight of Teague bashing seven types of shit out of some Aussie on that Lions tour. Tremendous.

Mick Skinner was not in the same league as Mike Teague. Iron Mike was a great player. Great Lion in Australia
@rampageclover97885 жыл бұрын
No but Skinner was terribly underrated...should have been on the lions tour in 89’
@myroseaccount3 жыл бұрын
If they'd played Richards at 8 and Tigger at 6 and Winters at 7 in the WC final in 1991 I think that would have been a different outcome. Skinner's most noteworthy play of the game was giving a kickable penalty way from a crash tackle on Poidevin.

Don't forget Mick "The Munch" Skinner!
@myroseaccount3 жыл бұрын
Skinner was all big hits and there was little else to his game. Not playing Richards at 8 in that 91 final and moving Teague to 6 was a massive selection mistake. With Richards, Teague, Dooley and Ackford mauling they would have suffocated Australia
@xpat7315 жыл бұрын
I think you will find that Mike did quite well when he left for Mosely. He was, by his own admission, the highest paid palyer in the UK...even though it was "amateur." There was alot of under the table stuff. Teagey deserved every penny.

I would have 6 Teague 7 Hill 8 Dallaglio as my all time England backrow. The bench would have Rodber who can cover lock and Winterbottom
@MKRM277 жыл бұрын
budwhite1 Your back row would be okay at best. Rodber? His name shouldn't even be mentioned in this company.

Poor old Teaguey, gave everything for England and the Lions just before the real money came into the game. He was as strong as an ox. I remember opposition backs rows trying to stop his marauding runs. Good times.
