He has hemophilia so a cut that was just a tiny bit deeper would have caused him to bleed and basically never stop bleeding until he got some coagulation meds from a hospital. An injury that wouldn't cause most people any more than just pain could potentially cause Connor to die from blood loss.

So... the thing is on very long duration bikes or runs, normal pants will bunch up and cause friction burns and blisters. I don't bike but I used to run and... yeah, it can be quite unpleasant, and I wasn't doing hour after hour, day after day like these guys. Even materials that feel soft at first change after a couple hours when they get soaked in sweat. And if he was wearing like lycra leggings, it doesn't really provide more protection than shorts.

Bike gear can be good. I thought Connor had some decent gear on until this vid. He needs proper compression gear. I was shocked by how far up his leg injury went. Proper compression leggings wouldn't have allowed the leggings to slide up like that. Plus his gloves seem a bit cheap. I wear wrist gear and get less scraping than Connor did and mine doesn't have finger holes meaning that I get scrapped because it slides a bit but his shouldn't have slid. Pants are definitely a great choice until you learn what good gear looks/feels like.

Jeans would only protect from very minor scraps. I’ve “fallen” from my bikes a couple times (more like my bike did, but i somehow didn’t), and had scraped my thigh and shin on the bike pedal. Problem was, i couldn’t look at it at the moment because well, jeans are hard to roll up high enough. Besides bike accidents, i have also fallen before when some guy tried breaking his fall with my backpack, and that did left a nasty scrap on my knee despite not breaking through the jeans. Again, i didn’t know until i got home since i couldn’t take a look at it. Long story into a short story: Proper protective gear would be best over just some jeans that’ll be uncomfortable to ride long distance.
