No he's not imo. The idea that it's no question is just silly. In the 2000s he wasn't even the best rapper out of QB - 50 cent was. Nas was in Jays shadow after Biggie passed for the most part too. Llcoolj is better too if you know you're history

The reason it worked for Pac is because he didn’t go into detail about it, he wasn’t crude. The rest of Hit ‘Em Up was hard af!. Jay bringing up Nas’s baby momma just came off as being petty and desperate, like a boxer who’s on the ropes and tries to low blow just to survive the round.

Because Jay was so powerful to Def Jam, and Def Jam was so powerful to Hot 97, and Hot 97 had a monopoly of hip hop in NYC at the time, they all had it submerged and silenced, so people don’t know about it or consider it.

It does get love from ppl that are fans of both, that track is 🔥 in my opinion. What gets no love is "Stillmatic" which is freestyle, before "Ether". Nas basically rips apart the whole Rocafella in 2bars. Extreme Nas & Jay-Z fans knew after hearing that freestyle. Nas would win. It's like you about to wake the demon, and Jay did 🤣

Once i heard the track "Stillmatic" on a mixtape when Nas obliterated the whole Rocafella with 2 bars. Even before Ether dropped. Everyone who had a chance to hear that freestyle at that time of battle, knew Nas would win.

Yeah, you don’t wanna talk about a dude’s ex when y’all beefin. I had arguments and situations with coworkers that I messed with their ex’s or girls they are currently messing with, and I never, ever brought it up. As a man, that’s kind of separate or personal. At the time, I just focused on what the conflict was. I work at a big ass store, so I messed with a lot of girls that no one knew I messed with lol, it was fun, and they knew I kept my mouth shut, so that helped get them, but I never brought stuff up later. And Jay was definitely wrong for throwing Allen Iverson’s name in there, whoa, totally foul for that! Lol

I was 25/26 years old in 2001. I remember arguing with dudes about Jays response. A man can’t get props for going after another man. Period. It is unmanly to brag about sleeping with a guys ex as if doing that gives that dude a one up. I’m happy that this is over because in my opinion Jay was winning the battle with his great music! Mentioning Nas on takeover ruined Jays advantage at the time and propelled Nas over Jay even though Jay z was and still is way higher than Nas money wise. Jay didn’t need to mention Nas at all on Blueprint. Nas at the time was down and not really invested in hip hop because his mother was sick and soon to pass. “Don’t poke the bear”. Leave a hornets nest alone unless you want to get lit up. Peace

I keep telling people Super Ugly was a freestyle. People missed the entire angle. Jay wanted to freestyle battle live. He was trying to prove he was the better emcee by battling live but Nas made the better production. Look it up. Jay was trying to do ppv numbers

This might sound mad for someone as talented as Jay, but I’m not really sure that he’s a proper battle rapper on record. I think Jay would body most people if it were a freestyle, but when it actually comes to wax, he’s maybe a bit too subtle or not direct enough. What do Hit ‘Em Up and Ether both have in common (aside from 2pac’s voice on both intros? 😂). It attacks the problem head on. With Hit ‘Em Up - just 2pacs intro alone is all you need to remember, and you’re like “damnnnnnnn”. With Ether, just the intro “F*ck Jay-Z” stays in your head. So even though to some, Takeover had better poetic value than Ether, Ether was just a harder hitting more destructive record. If Jay has that unapologetic land with Takeover, it could have been game over. And I’m actually a Nas fan!
