I hated it. Irv was acting like a mob boss and even the way he talked back in the day was straight up annoying. He was the DJ Khaled of the 00’s. I’m glad they can just laugh all about it now and at the end of the day, it was just business and everyone gets replaced by someone new. 50, Kanye and Em aren’t really clicking with the Gen Zs now. Nowadays they have Travis and a bunch of Lil whatever their names are. And then it will be 50 cent’s turn to talk about stories like this like hearing Drake’s or Wayne’s massive first songs on the radio.

It is important to note that Ja and Irv sort of dominated quite a bit in the early 00’s with only Nelly and of course Eminem being the only mainstream competition. Ja was everywhere with his own singles and being featured in somebody else’s songs. In da club kind of destroyed the whole melodic easy to listen to mainstream rapping at that time and you can say 50 really came in at the right time with the right tunes and with the perfect backing and hype.

what this goes to show is that every battle and everything isn't about lyricism. 50 cent used all his leverage to his advantage. When he made "In Da Club" he picked the right beat, wrote a very catchy hook, and hade fun on the verses. he knew he had a hit record on his hands. It was not written to be a super lyrical record. 50 knew how to make good music. Irv as an executive who had his label full of hit makers knows a smash hit when he hears it. Irv had to respect it. Dre with the simple but massive beat, the insanely huge Eminem co sign, and the power of Jimmy Iovine and Interscope records all made for a phenomenal thing.

I remember listening when Kube 93 ( Seattle) first played this song, and it was so heavily requested that they literally played it 3 times in a row. Hilarious hearing that story from Irv, good on him for being honest about the whole thing.

It was senior year of college. I was in the gym. Middle of the day. Usually I have my headphones but for whatever reason I didnt at this moment. Power 106 host goes “We got this new 50 Cent and Dr. Dre…” I didn’t pay it that much mind cause the announcement was so nonchalant. The beat came on and I was like oh ok. Then the hook came in and I stopped working out and was like oh wait a minute!!! A few months later my school had a In Da Club party where they dropped the song EVERY HALF HOUR. Lolll 😂

I remember when that song dropped I was in college during my heavy party days. When I say that song hit it hit everywhere. seems like all at once. You heard it in everybody’s car when you was goin in the club. The dj ran that record a few times while you was in the club. Then when you was leaving the club everybody was playing it. I had never seen a record do that before. And that song still slaps!!

He knew it was a wrap by the time In the Club dropped lol. Even Jay Z said he told his whole Rocafella crew about 50cent coming & told them to put out as much music as they could because this guy 50cent is coming & then boom In the Club dropped 😁 Game over 🎮❌

First hip hop track I ever heard, was 8/9 jamming to the music channels on freeview tv and all of a sudden here comes this crazy beat that had me jumping up and down immediately, from then on I was a hip hop fan, got my parents to buy everything 50 cent related from the albums to the movie to the baggy jeans. What a time to be a kid being introduced to the best genre in music.
