When do you become too old to ride safely? Well, as you'll see in this video, if you're a skilled rider and you practice those skills on a regular basis, there's no such thing as too old to ride.

I’m almost 79 and still riding starting in 1958, I practice ever time I go out 3 to 4 times a week on my 2014 Harley heritage . The key is practice, practice, practice and enjoy yourself. My wife has given me the ok to ride until I’m 104 years old so I’ve got a lot of years to practice riding skills and to keep riding. 🤠👍

I’m 73 and ride with a guy who’s 80. In our group we had one guy ride until 87 on a Street Glide Special. Unfortunately a stroke forced him to stop. I have your DVD’s, practice every time I can and have used your DVD’s in my group riding course. Like Dave when I started in Ohio all you needed was a driver’s license.

I know guys that are 80 years old that still ride like pros and I know people in their 40s that been riding 20 years that should've never been given a motorcycle endorsement. There's no age to start or stop, you stop when you can't do it safely anymore whether that's at 25, 50 or 100 years old.

I have a friend who turned 86 this year who is still riding. He has downsized his motorcycle and now rides a 900cc Vulcan. At some point he found his full sized touring bike, too heavy for his smallish frame. But he’s still passionate about riding. In fact, he and I are planning a three or four day trip together as soon as weather permits. I hope I’m still as able as he is at that age. I have a ways to go. I’ll be 70 at the end of this year. I’m enjoying your videos, Jerry. Keep them coming.

Totally agree with Dave’s comments. I am 75, soon to be 76 and still riding since I was 9 years young. About 6 months ago I watch one of your KZfaq videos, since than I have watched several more. Your never to old to learn new techniques which I took away from your videos. I continue to practice many of them, especially turning your head, feathering the clutch and dragging the rear brake. I will continue to ride until it’s time not too whenever that may be. Thank you for sharing your skills it has made a difference. Charles…

This video is "just what the doctor ordered!" Sometimes I wonder why I practice a few times per week at age 65 as a relatively new rider, but it's because I want to ride into my 80s and without solid skills, it isn't advisable. Our group rides are usually led by moto officers, and we head for the practice pad upon finishing at the dealerhsip which is great fun but unfortunately only a few riders participate.

Proud of my fellow Canuck and Ontarian for his great showing in the course, and his commitment to rider safety! As to the question of when it's time to hang it up... I think that's a very personal decision, unique to every rider. My dad continued downhill skiing until he was 86. Much like riding, that is a sport highly dependent on one's sense of balance. When he felt that his sense of balance was failing, that was when he hung up his boards. He recognized that a fall at his age could be debilitating, and didn't want to risk his quality of life on what might, in his younger days, have been just a minor mishap. We all reach loss of strength, balance, stamina, general physical health, and even mental faculties at a different point in our lives, and any of those, or a combination of some or all, should be our basis for determination of when to give up ANY activity that might injure, or even kill, ourselves or someone else.

That's the best love it. I'm 70 so just think it's great. Love that he won the contest. If I was to take up riding again I would never do it without your service. I look back at my many years on Harley's and Honda's I did so much wrong. If I had today's HD I would not want to drag the running boards but I understand why you teach it. I'm just such a detail freak having my boards scraping would bother me. But I would do it for the reasons you teach. You and your wife really ride so good. Hopefully her hip is healing well. Great job I enjoy watching your teaching.

Pennsylvania grandfathered me a motorcycle license but Years later I took the MSF basic rider course then instructed. I still ride. Bought a 2020 Softail Standard. I’m running out of old friends that I have ridden with. They are either getting sick, or their wives want them to stop, ans several have passed away. I’m going to ride as long as I can.

I'm also 75 and have been riding since I was 19, less 12 years for marriage. I started on a dirt bike and then when I started again it was a 73 Sportster. Next was a Softail and decided I wanted to be a better rider so I bought your videos and started practicing the techniques you show. I never realized how bad a rider I was and so were the guys I rode with. Now I ride a Road Glide touring easier than any of the other bikes I've had. Thank you for helping me and many others to learn how to be a skilled and confident rider. My next step will be an adventure bike and some more skills to learn. I like the saying: You don't stop riding because you get old, you get old because you stopped riding.

Like this rider I have had a somewhat similar experience. I had been riding for a number of years (OK - at least 20), when I took my police training in 1998 and not once during that training did any of the instructors mention friction zone, head and eyes or rear brake. Things have come a long way since then. Thanks Motorman.

Here i have a Merc SL an old one to play with , however I may ship the Kawasaki back. Love what Dave said about dropping the bike. If you're not dropping it, you're not riding it. That's exactly how I feel too. My bike has some dents and dings from being dropped but I'd rather drop my bike in the safety of a parking lot in the pursuit of perfecting my skills, than dropping it on the road and risking my life. Dent the motorcycle, not your skull.

I'm 72. Just retired. I road a small bike for about 3 years as a teenager. Not since. I always dreamed of having a Triumph Bonneville. Never got there. Is it crazy for me to think I can go get a new motorcycle endorsement on my license, take a course, practice with all my new found free time, and start riding again? Maybe buy a Bonneville T100 and ride in good weather only? I have driven a little roadster for fun for years. Love the top down. I would love to ride a motorcycle again.

Age should not be the limiter on riding. That being said I have ridden with guys in their late 80s with better skills and reflexes than some much younger riders. The most important thing is for you to recognize when your ability is not up to par. I’m glad I bought that VHS from that guy and his wife.
