If you have a problem squeezing a grease gun, try the battery operated ones from Dewalt, Milwaukee, etc... They're a bit pricey, but work well.

MIke, if you are having trouble with your grip I would recommend getting a battery powered grease gun. not a lot of pressure required and it can keep on pumping by simply holding the switch down.

I just bought LNL coupler and love it, however, the springs (for me) are really hard to depress all the way and get worse as I get some grease on my gloves. I've had carpal surgery and found that it really did impede my ability after a few times to grip it enough to make it work. I wished then that LNL could make this less hard to push to lock. Then I saw this video. I'm going to get the safelock just because of that issue. I'll keep LNL because it definitely works great and hope the new one works just as well, but it easier on my hands. For those out there who don't have issues with arthritis, carpal, or age, it really makes quite a difference not just when using a device at the time, but for days later. My hands are still hurting 4 days later. So Mike, thank you. And I don't at all feel like you're trying to sell me anything. I appreciate your honesty and your videos. For a novice like me, it really is a godsend.

Just got a Lock N Lube coupler today for my Legacy (Tractor Supply) battery powered grease gun. Love it! Greased my bush hog and finishing mower today. Very simple, should have bought a LNL years ago!

Hi Mike. I just thought I'd point out to you that at 1:16 of your video, you can see that the LNL does leak a little around the threads. Maybe some Teflon tape on the threads would fix that.

I have a LocknLube grease fitting and LOVE it. True, it doesn't fit everywhere because of its size, but I have a second grease gun with conventional fitting for those hard to reach spots. I hate those conventional fittings. The LocknLube was really expensive (about $65 Canadian by the time it arrived!!!) but if it lasts for years I'm happy.

One of the problems I have found with the LnL coupler, and likely the same with the other you show, is they extend the coupler length and prohibit you from getting into tight places. I've been looking around on Amazon to see what grease kit may be the best, as I need some 90 degree couplers now, and some other common fittings wouldn't be bad. I don't want to have more than 1 grease gun laying around like I have had in the past. I purchased an electric gun, in my case a Dewalt. Well worth the money spent, it takes me only a few minutes to grease my entire tractor, let alone my side by side, lawn mower, and anything else that needs it. I used to use an air compressor gun, which worked well, but I find with the electric I just walk to wherever my implements are at the time and grease them without putting it off until it is attached to the tractor and the tractor is near the compressor. I would encourage your viewer that has the weak grip to get an electric (or compressor) gun. I have less problems with the electric than I ever did with my cheap compressor gun, but granted it was very cheap. As far as the coupler, the one you mention looks like it may be easier for someone with grip problems, as it would only be a momentary push to get it on/off.

I have two pistol grip grease guns: one with lock lube and one without. The ONLY reason I have the regular tip on one for when the zirc fitting is inside a boss, like on the roller of my flail mower. The lock lube tip is just a little fat to fit inside the boss

Hi Mike, Randy here with a question ? I always hear you speak of a grease zerk. But I grew up calling it a grease alemite. Other people call them grease nipple’s or grease fittings. My Question is who is right? What is the Origin of these names? Are Zerk & Alemite companies that make the grease fitting? Just Curious and thanks for all your videos.

Mike, your video was quite timely as I received the grease gun and radiator genies recently. I tried using the new saflock and had a few problems using it easily, so I ordered a Lock-n-lube and it works super. I had been using the Lock-n-lube before and I was amazed when you said the threads were different but close enough, and sure enough it screwed right on and never had a problem. And your tip on squeezing the grease to the top should be a strong admonition, as I failed at doing a good job getting the air out and it required me to pump like a madman to get started, but has worked great ever since. I'll not make that mistake again. The radiator genie is a great little tool too. Thanks for your excellent customer service and I look forward to all your videos as they have helped out of several jams, and avoided many costly mistakes Thanks again for your willingness to help newbies Mark

The Lube Shuttle safeLOCK coupler will not lock onto 2 of the 12 zerks on my Deere 120R loader pins. The zerks are recessed in a counterbore of the pins. I think the nose of the coupler bottoms out before the jaws can lock onto the zerk. I was still able to pump grease into them without blow-by, but I had to keep pushing it firmly against the zerk. I'm not sure if replacing the zerks will help, or if a copper washer between the pin and zerk will fix the problem. Longer zerks might work, but then those stick out and would be exposed to being scraped and broken off. Overall, I am pleased with the Lube Shuttle products, but yeah, the coupler is not a "solves all" solution.

Deere sporadically uses some funky Korean-built zerks that gives safeLOCK fits! The Lube Shuttle folks have fought this issue for the last couple of years and finally decided to send out new zerks at no cost to customers who were having this issue. Once you replace them the safeLOCK will work on all fittings all the time. If you'll e-mail your address to mike@asktractormike.com, I'll make sure you you get some new zerks sent to you. Sorry for the issue!

You said you had no leaks when attaching the "other" quick coupler to the metric threads on the Lube Shuttle but at 1:16 in the video you can clearly see grease leaking where the coupler attaches to the hose end.

For the person with the grip issue.... I would get a Milwaukee (or cordless tool maker of choice) Cordless grease gun. No lever to pump or grip, and use second hand to hold grease tip on fitting.

Mike, You mentioned the quick-lock used the NPT standard and the Lube Shuttle was metric. You never mentioned what your new design was. You said it worked well on the Lube shuttle (but so did the quick-lock). The basis of the question is: Will the safeLOCK work on NPT grease guns? Thanks

Mike that’s a great looking product. I have a family member with strength issues and uses a pneumatic grease gun. Does the German product have one of those and also do you recommend pneumatic (air) grease guns. I will order the pistol grip and lock for myself but was wondering about the pneumatic ones, the pros and cons. Thank you for all the info. Love your KZfaq channel.

I'm not sure they have pneumatic, they do have electric or battery-powered guns that may be attractive. They're kinda pricey but they work very well for someone who applies a lot of grease.

I say 30 bucks for a grease gun fitting is rather rich for most folks. The old way works just great for me. I have all old fittings and old equipment that may be better than the new imported fittings , that may be the difference in ease of operation.

I have a question for ya. What or where do you use mid-range for? I assume mowing?
@TractorMike
@TractorMike 6 жыл бұрын
Mid range of hydro? Yes, that's what you'd likely use when mowing unless it was a level flat area without really tall grass.
@charliesawyer8327
@charliesawyer8327 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer, Mike. Do you feel mid range would be no good to someone mowing sloped terrain of 9° to flat? I am in the market for a tractor and the two models I am considering, one has it and the other does not. These options are hard to sort when its your first tractor.
@TractorMike
@TractorMike 6 жыл бұрын
The more ranges the better. I have a two range, then both of those ranges have a high/low that can be shifted on the go, so there's really four ranges. I very seldom use the low/low one but I use all of the others. All things being equal I'd sure prefer a three range to a two range.

Well... I gota say it appears to me personally that there is JUST a hint of "used car salesman" in this video and the Lube Shuttle video. Granted... All you ever said was that the Lube Shuttle minimizes waste and mess of reloading. Of course you are then limited to a proprietary grease/packaging versus literally dozens and dozens (if not hundreds) of grease choices with standard tubes. And I saw just a little of the infamous O.J. "If it don't fit, you must acquit" in your "struggle" with the Lock-N-Lube's "mighty spring". Nothing it perfect and as you pointed out, sometimes the stock tip works best. Just know we are keeping a sharp eye on you Mike and we want you to stay true to yourself and the community you have built. Keep up the overall good work.

Get a battery grease gun or pneumatic grease gun. Better yet an air operated mounted on a 35 lb pail of grease.
