I would have to agree with you on this one. They do tolerate each other, and don't really display any "aggressive tendencies" past hissing at each other and chasing each other around the house / yard. All in all, I would consider this a win, considering they DIDN'T grow up together their entire lives, as you said.

I am American, so I don't quite get the moose reference, but I do get the general gist of what you meant. I agree, domesticated housecats require very little effort - they eat, they use their litter box, and they sleep wherever they want whenever they want. These two, there was alot more to it. Sasha and Masha had a big job ahead of them with getting these two to where they are now. Much more complicated situation.

I probably don't need to say it to a person from Idaho but a warning for everyone else: Messi is a rare exception. Cougars are not normally sociable with people, they can and will maul any human to death if they feel threatened - don't ever try to approach them. AFAIK cheetahs normally prefer to just stay clear of people they don't know, but they are similarly capable of killing a person rather quickly if they need to.

This is because Messi has never had a Social bond with other cats(not even brothers or sisters as he was separated at Birth due to his health problems)... It will be tough, but it can be done.

Her sudden movements is what makes him not fully trust her. I do not know how long these two cats have seen each other but she looks like she closer to trusting him than the other way around. But eating out of same bowl with their heads next to each other is some progress. Probably a good four or five years in same backyard with each other before he trusts her to really physically play fight together or groom each other. If that not happening after five years this maybe as much progress that one can expect. Just tolerating each other.

So, it requires time, and truthfully it may never work due there age as well as when they encountered each other. They may be just too themselves for it to be possible. I unfortunately think it's a true cat/dog relationship. Messi will always run, triggering Gerda's prey drive even though she might be just trying to play. Messi doesn't understand that way of playing and is genuinely worried, thus runs, only perpetuating the cycle.
