Is a Unibody Macbook Pro from mid 2012 still worth it?

Күн бұрынI was looking for a cheap laptop for my son to use for school and I decided to dust off and upgrade my wife's old mid 2012 MacBook Pro. Was it worth my time? Let's check it out!

I have this MacBook. I upgraded the HDD to a 500GB SSD, the RAM to 8GB & replaced the battery. I even upgraded the OS to Monterey via OCLP. It's a good productivity machine & can do a little more than basic tasks.

This MacBook Pro still supported Catalina, but for other unsupported Macs I like to use Open Core. I have a "cheese grater" 5,1 Mac Pro running Monterey with Open Core, it works great.

How can you clean the aluminum body? Maybe need some polish, I want it mine in the best great shape possible

I like to use eucalyptus oil on all my MacBooks, iMac and MacPro, it works really well. I'm not sure how to go about removing scratches though, I don't bother with mine, it adds character.

I say use dilute (%50 ish) rubbing alcohol to remove the dirt etc and leave it at that. Probably the best way to make it glorious from all or most of the scratches is to use some abrasive polishing material but... neeeeh.

Thanks but... Now that you went throught the pain of it, I wished you would show more of machine streeping and its anatomy/corks, for which a lot of viewers are probably here in first place.

the thing is that you are not able to download pages from the App Store without a workaround. So the Macbook is not a "perfectly capable word processor"

Install Office or use Google docs. Or you can use Open Core to upgrade to Ventura. Think outside the box....
