If it’s nursing it’s worth it, everyone has their niche within the field, I’d say shoot for a bsn if you have the time/finances if not, the others are great too. In 2023, self employed CNA’s who contract out their services make in the low 100k’s, so there’s room for everyone to live good.

I finished in April. Got my license earlier this month. Nursing school wasn’t hard for me. However, at the end I was super over it, and wanted it to be over! Your graduation is in weeks! Girl complete those assignments, clinical hours, and final exams! Oh and start studying for the nclex NOW! It was hard asf! It wasn’t like any of the school exams! The case studies were things we were taught and the questions were WTF is this ish! If your school has an nclex prep that is already paid for use that, don’t buy one bc they don’t really help frfr! If you have nclex questions in evolve use those bc those are the hard style questions they’ll ask on nclex! Good luck!

I say Go straight for the RN degree. If becoming an LPN/LVN fits into your long-term career goals, go for it. Where I live, LPN/LVN positions have been almost eliminated. But that's in a hospital setting. You are correct about the MSN degree. My MSN has given me so many awesome opportunities in my nursing career. Everyone takes different paths to reach their ultimate goals.

as an LVN i wouldnt recommend hospitals to LVNs, for RNs yes but not LVNs tho. the goal for LVNs is director positions tbh. i work as a regional nurse making $145,000.00 in california, love it. my friend who is an RN in indiana hospital only makes like $36/hour. LVNs do not make much in hospital, it is almost the same pay working in skilled and too much work for low pay. you make more money working a desk job, at least not that tiring and you make more then some of the RNs, depends on the company and how much revenue they bring in

Hello Dr. Aisha. Thank you for this video. It was very informative and intuitive. I would though like to say if you are going to present on the pros of becoming an LVN/LPN, then you have to fairly point out the cons as well. I would like to include some of those. A.) Before becoming an LVN, it would be very beneficial to know what your longterm goals are and research your area of places where job opportunities are available for you. Yes, LVNs can provide many great services in healthcare. However in regards to career advancement? Not so much. B.) LVN - RN bridge programs are very competitive to come by because, well one there are not that many of them around and also its harder for those programs to become accredited by the BON in many states. Two, there are not as many nurse educators who are willing to leave their jobs to go into solely education. Three, these bridge programs are typically very expensive for the average middle income class person. C.) If you still decide you want to become an RN after completion of your LVN, then you will need to complete pretty much all the prerequisites before you can apply to a nursing program. Most RN programs require anatomy and physiology 1 & 2, microbiology w/ lab, general chemistry w/ lab, English Composition, Nutrition, human pathophysiology, college algebra, pre-calculus, general statistics, history, and human growth and development. D.) You also will still need to take the TEAS/ATI examinations to get into nursing school and while you are in it. E.) This is the one I dislike mostly. You will also have to take the NCLEX again. This time at the RN level. F.) While LVNs are very competent in their skillsets, they will mostly never be Charge Nurse or be able to dictate the plan of care for a patient. LVNs also do not qualify to sit for certifications in specialty areas. This information is whatIve gathered from time talking with nursing faculty and a couple members whom were on the BON of my state. I think LVNs have a nice career path. Especially when compared to many occupations. Just as long as you are cognizant of the big picture, then by all means consider it.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge😊. I just want to add a bit to your response. A & B. It really depends on the state you practice in as to your scope of practice. I'm in Virgina. Last year as an LPN i made $92K with only $10k of that from a PRN job. I graduated from a level 2 trauma hospitals nursing program. I have been an LPN for 10 years, I currently work as a Med/Surg LPN in a naval hospital. I was previously a pediatric nurse giving direct care and phone triage and also work prn for a rehabilitation facility as a charge nurse. I've done travel assignments, wound care nurse (special training and certification). I've taught classes. LPN's are not as limited as people make them out to be. There are so many opportunities. It just depends on the individual and scope of practice for that state. C. As for prerequisites most bridge programs these are not needed because you are a practicing nurse. And there are many bridge programs and most are online and you set up your own clinicals. D. Not all programs use TEAS for RN or LPN programs, some use HESI or some other version. E. The benefit to being a nurse already and taking the NCLEX again is that you know the test structure and how to study and prepare for it. The new NCLEX is called Next Generation and it actually gives credit for what you got right on select all that apply instead of making the entire question wrong if you answer just kne wrong. F. This is simply not true. LPN's are charge nurses and do dictate plan of care (home health, rehab, LTC, clinics, schools etc... As I stated every state is different in the scope of practice so it really depends on where you live. As a nurse we all need to look at the big picture. Nursing is not glamorous and whether someone has chosen LPN or RN, schooling is rigorous and demanding and so is the field of nursing. It's the most rewarding career, but mentally and physically exhausting. If it's your calling do it. If it's for the money don't, you are doing yourself and your patients a huge disservice.
@jeremyjones5140
@jeremyjones5140 Жыл бұрын
@@Phy734 Thank you for this information. I learned some new information from your response. However I have to tell you that in several instances, you are wrong. Regarding A & B, your statement is very true. Your state will determine your scope of practice as a nurse. LPNs can work in many areas and often will work synonymously and conjointly with RNs doing MOST of the same tasks. C. YES, prerequisites are needed. Maybe things are different for your state however for the majority of the country, if you plan on acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher you will need to take AND successfully pass the prerequisite classes of statistics, chemistry w/ lab, college algebra/Math, biology, nutrition, COLLEGE UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL A & P, RN level pharmacology Psychology, Microbiology w/lab etc. IF you plan on furthering your education to the DNP Nurse Practitioner/CRNA/Midwife/Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse educator/ Director of Nursing, etc. type of careers then you WILL certainly need those prerequisites AS YOUR BASELINE. They are required. The reason why those classes are needed in the BSN curriculum is because the college has to provide undergraduate college level classes with the required rigor of a college in order for the student to be awarded with the undergraduate degree, in this case the BSN. - Both D and E are more than likely true and I should have mentioned both the HESI and NGN style NCLEX though I wouldnt say its easier. That will depend on the learning styles of the student. F. LPNs may serve as charge nurse for nursing homes, Long term care facilities, or possibly rehab. However, LPNs will never be titled Charge Nurse of an ICU (any type of ICU), ER, Psychiatric hospitals, Cath Lab, Acute care settings, Operating Room, PACU, OB-GYN clinics, etc. If there is an LPN serving as charge nurse at any one of those settings I listed, then the BON needs to be contacted and that heathcare setting needs to be investigated because they could seriously put those patient's lives in very unsafe situations and it is illegal in most cases. I totally agree with your last statement. Please do not look at this field as some sort of money grab. You have to truly love doing this job in order to be successful at it especially since other people's lives will count on it.
@Phy734

@jeremyjones5140 i was replying to your response about bridge programs LPN to RN, you did not say BSN, CRNA, NP. Of course, those classes are needed. I know I am an LPN and currently bridging LPN to BSN. My LPN program required us take college level A & P 1 and 2 and pharmacology. As for charge, again I responded to your comment that LPN's could not be charge. I simply stated they can, you did not specify location. It's great you are doing your research. If you are on a path to become a nurse I wish you all the luck.

Hey Jeremy. I disagree with some of your points a.) LVN can do career advancements so i disagree with you on this one based from my own exp. This depends on the company tho. I work as a regional nurse for an assisted living community and my pay is $145,000.00 per year in northern california. Max is $160,000.00. that is already more then the RNs technically in all states besides California. In my company HSDs LVNs makes anywhere between $90,000 to $125,000 per year salaried. My pay was $105,000 ($50.48/hour) starting outas HSD before I got promoted. Then you can get promoted to general manager and that ranges from $160,000 to $210,000 per year. Regional nurses makes $130,000 to $160,000 per year. That’s for assisted living communities. For skilled you can become DSD, IP, ADON, MDS, desk nurses and etc in my former skilled they were all LVNS. I used to work for home health as a clinical supervisor which paid me $90,000.00 per year before I became I went to assisted living as HSD then regional. This is all based from my own personal experience. I saw some ads on indeed before for LVN case manager and etc, never applied for it tho, it said in the description managing care plans and etc FYI f.) LVNs can be charge nurses as well. In skilled nursing facilities, every cart nurse is called the charge nurse. If I was assigned to hallway A for example then I am the charge nurse for that hallway. I used to work in skilled and my title was charge nurse. That is incorrect. I worked in skilled for few years starting out. LVNs care be certified in IV therapy/wound certificate/RCFE license and etc. LVNs has theirown certifications and RNs has their own certifications as well. In terms of plan of care, in assisted living communities the LVN can do plan of care. I work in assisted living communities and I do plan of care all the time. not to brag but to motivate other LVNs like me tho. you can always reach out to me so you can connect with me. i can provide paystubs and tax returns but of course my address and personal info will be hiddin, you will see the money i make and etc to motivate and push harder in schools. i am living proof, that you can be wealthy as an LVN
@legacymarc
@legacymarc 5 ай бұрын
i am an LVN in california but i am a regional nurse and i make $145,000.00. just to motivate other LVNs. you can easily to over $100,000. even tho cali has the highest taxes and cost of living. my house with swimming pool was $600,000 (monthtly mortgage is $3,000) and my tesla (car payment is $600). not to brag but to motivate. i still have money leftover as well for my personal needs and traveling. do not think $80,000.00 is the max you can make as an LVN. manager roles makes more then that as LVNs.

@@lindas.3791 that is not true actually. pay for nurses are higher in northern california compared to Socal. assisted living is oversee by the department of social services not by the department of health, meaning you will gain 0 nursing exp in assisted living. i work as a regional nurse in assisted living in norhtern. our southern regional quit her job so i have to go down there to cover. nurses usually makes around $30-35 per hour fpr LVNs in assisted living. in my company around 35-37. colleges dont do clinicals in assisted living either typically becuz what skill are they going to do? assisted isnt medical. skilled procedures is prohibited.

not true lol based from exp. in skilled we just dont do medpass we also critical think, we assess and etc. i used to work as a clinical supervisor for home health and RNs would call me daily asking what should i do and etc. i critical think all the time as an LVN. i do IVs insertion and blood draws and i educate patient and etc. now i am working as a regional nurse making $145,000.00 that is more then all the RNs in every state besides cali. whats ironic i also see that with RNs. there was one RN in my home health agency who did a PICC line dressing, did not wash hands, did not use gloves, dropped stuff on the floor, and patient went to hospital and became septic. that nurse got fired. one RN attempted a blood draw and was unsuccessful and one of our LVNs went the next day and she was successful at it. respect LVNs. some of the LVNs i meant are smarter then some of our RNs. there are good and bad LVNs and RNs. i saw everything. LVNs do not complete tasks, all depends where you work at. i done skin assessments, i even write wound orders in home health and yes LVNs can write wound orders too, i did neuro assessments; health education on disease and med management; blood withdrawal, IV insertion; foleys, all clinical procedures; i supervise the RNs and etc.
