Back on Track was the first level I ever beat (in GD lite). Despite it, in my opinion, being easier, it makes for a perfect second level due to its slightly increased complexity (with the jump pads).

The reason for this is because back on track featured a new thing and they wanted to let the player get comfortable with it. Stereo madness starts REALLY easy to let the player know how far you can jump. The triple spike was there to show the maximum of spikes you can jump over.

I also thought that, but after making some of my family members play the second level before Stereo Madness, I noticed that they get confused because of all the jump pads. So while the second level might be easier for players who are used to the game it might actually be harder for people who just started playing the game. Edit: Also, the second-level spacing between spikes and blocks is more confusing in general.

@@TRUELittleNooby The problem isn't that they don't know how jump pads work, it's that they're not used to it yet. In general, I think the second level is easier but more confusing due to the addition of jump pads and the spacing of obstacles (Especially for a new player).

Back on track is level 2 because it has one more information to keep in mind: jump pads. Polargeist adds orbs, dry out is gravity and etc.

Well coin arguments are kind of stupid considering they were added in 1.6 and the levels were not built around coins. Also judging difficulty by coins doesn’t make sense either because they are not mandatory to beat the level so that can’t add to the difficulty. I’m not saying back on track is easier than stereo madness or that stereo madness is easier than back on track but that coin arguments are invalid

The levels are not ordered by difficulty, they’re ordered by mechanics and complexity. Back on Track is easier than Stereo Madness only if you’re already used to the game. Stereo Madness is a better training ground for new players since it’s more clear and has only basic spikes.

When i got back into gd after deleting my account for a few years but then rejoining it took me like 4 attempts to 3 coin back on track but about 13 for stereo madness. Though i recently had a child with no gd experience try out the game and it had a way better time with stereo madness.

Theyre beginner levels though, so coins dont directly count towards difficulty since theyre optional. The reason back on track is considered harder has to do with how one has to deal with the additional mechanic, bounce pads, and has to learn how to work with them. When youre already familiar it becomes easy, like how flipping upside down becomes completley irrelevant in difficulty when youre good. But not when you're new. Plus, the one ship part can be considered more difficult than the other two ship parts, and overall its really just starter levels at the end of the day.

You have to also take into account how hard it is for new players. Stereo Madness is the first ever level a new player will play. This introduces: - how high and far the character can jump - how many spikes it can jump over - trickery - ship - secret coins - color changes - music playing in the background - holding mouse button I am a returning player to Geometry dash and failed like 23 times in Stereo Madness when coming back but once I got into the groove I literally first tried the next 5 levels

My progression in GD: 1 level I did: stereo madness 2: back on track 3: dry out 4: can't let go 5: theory of everything 6: polar Geist 7: base after base 8: jumper 9: x step 10: cycles 11: electroman adventures 12: time machine 13: clutter funk. I did it really messed up, but it still worked out:)
