This is one instance where the Americans outsmarted Putin. If the planes were on the market, Russia could have bought them just to prevent them from falling in Ukraine's hands. Now, it's safe to assume that these planes will be thoroughly refurbished, equipped with up to date avionics, modern weapons systems, etc. How they'll handle the engines it's a different story, but I bet American engineers will find a way to turn these ageing birds into fearsome weapons of war.

Don’t see them lasting very long against Russia’s new SU-57 fighters which are built to beat Western 4th generation jets. So the older Soviet jets or US F16’s won’t help them.
