I think the scariest thing about him was the unspoken implications of his past & his full power. The show itself doesn’t focus much on his past, but him just brushing past his destruction of the 2nd Dimension as “liberation” is an incredibly unnerving line. Then there’s his full plan in Sock Opera that we hear about the Journal 3, where he wanted to fling Dipper’s body off the water tower and frame it as a suicide. And the most blatantly scary scene with him is in the finale, where he nearly kills Mabel “just for the heck of it”. It’s… definitely enough to make him at least a bit horrifying, even if he perhaps could have used more screen time to truly show how unhinged he could be.

I wouldn't say he's outright scary, just unnerving. Giving deer teeth to a kid was certainly unsettling, but not outright scary.

I think the scariest thing about Bill is that while he was overall a bit of a shallow villain they did do a good job of capturing how easily he could go from: "Mischievous, crazy triangle" to "Homicidal, Sadistic Maniac", like in weirdmaggedon when he went from . "Be cool, hide the time punch" and then immediately killed Time baby and dozens of time enforcement agents. Those transitions are what always got me.

Bill DOES say “Stan Pines” instead of”Stanford,” so I feel like Bill always knew that he wasn’t engaging with the same Pines brother. Even if they didn’t intend to keep him as a recurring character, I think they kept the twins narrative consistent there.

I think Blendin was the perfect choice. Cause she knew he could control time. So him offering an endless summer is something he could actually do. She wouldn't believe anyone else who would offer that

Yes, Bill knew about Stan and knew that that is who Gideon was talking about. When he said "Stanford" Bill first laughed and then went "Hey, wait," and then ran through different images related to Stan while saying "Stan Pines..." before he agreed to make the Deal with Gideon.

I wouldn't say Bill was scary. Like many major Disney villains he was more so menacing but also fun to watch, just with some dark past implications and an immense amount of power. He had the wit of Hades and the lurking intimidation of Maleficent.

I got the impression the summoning spell Gideon used gave him a level of control in this situation. Which is the only reason he has any sway in the end of season 1.

I think that Bill allowing Gideon to push him around in Dreamscaperers makes more sense on the re-watches, tbh. Think about it: We learn Bill has no influence on the physical realm, at all. Now he has Gideon, a pawn who DOES have influence on the physical realm, who might be able to help him escape the Dreamscape, and launch Weirdmageddon. It makes sense that he would want to do what's necessary to not lose out on that. He can't just THREATEN Gideon. He presumably has no way to hurt him, so his threats would kind of fall flat. So the best option was to play along with him, and make sure Gideon sticks by his side as his physical-world pawn. It's like you said: Make them feel like they're in control, and then spring the trap Thing is, Gideon cut him off before he could spring the trap. He was still in the 'Make him feel like he's in control' phase. The other half of the deal that we didn't get to see, might have involved Bill outright possessing Gideon.

Well without him, the core/darcy, king Andreas, belos/witch hunter, and the collector couldn't run. I still find him to be a great antagonist.

i think there are 2 reasons that bill picked blendin 1 - it would be weird for anyone else outside the shack to know about this kind of stuff, and since blendin is from the future, which mabel does not know much about and messed with time travel, itd make sense for him to know about the rift 2 - the goggles hide bill's yellow eyes (he could hve possessed candy or smth but reason 1 is a thing so no)

I think the best adjective to describe Bill is "ominous." Until weirdmageddon, they actually use him somewhat sparingly. The few times he does show up, he shows to be extremely powerful, chaotic, but also calculatively manipulative. It added an aura of mystery to him, which probably worked in his favor to seem like a threat.

As a kid, I was *TERRIFIED* of a Bill so much that I tried to avoid Gravity Falls for a while just from the paranoia I had of potentially seeing him unexpectedly in an episode; not just an image of him in the background, but actually him. But as I matured, I grew to freakin love his character more and more despite his terrifying nature. It’s easy to see why people like me cite Bill as one of Disney’s top animated villains of the 2010s to now (yes, Toffee’s included, but he’s one of the good things of Star vs). And that’s actually a question I have: when comparing Bill with Dominator from Wander Over Yonder, those two are incredibly beloved and kind of fulfill the same “I wanna destroy everything and kill everyone because it’s fun” trope, and they would totally be friends. But I have to ask, is Bill _slightly_ more justified than her? His reasoning was because he hated the restrictions of his dimension and wanted exceed what was possible, and the most sure fire way to achieve that was to liberate both his dimension and our [Gravity Falls’s] dimension. While his execution was flat-out psychotic and his reasoning - to many - is not enough to justify it, I don’t remember Dominator have ANY reason for why she was committed genocide everywhere other than “because it’s fun.” That’s what Wander was trying to figure out during their last few encounters before the show ended and we never knew if it was really because she had no true friends. Not hating on Dominator by any means; she’s freakin awesome and her “Bad Guy” song makes me wanna see her and Billie Eilish do a duet, but it just came to mind. So what do you guys think???

The reason for the white void I believe is Stan had incredible control of his mind. Lots of practice with mental tricks given his trickster status. It's said there's many kinds of intelligences and Stan is just as sharp as Ford, just in different ways. So it's not unfeasible that Stan mentally built himself an arena as they came up with their plan to better trap Bill at the end.

Gravity Falls aired when I was in high school, so I was never scared by him like a lot of younger Gen Z were back in the day. However, I do think he's unsettling, especailly when he does shit like giving someone deer teeth or threatening to kill the pines twins, a well written villain and entertaining to watch.

Bill himself is not _necessarily that Evil,_ if you know he can only affect you via a Deal - it's *his potential* once he _has_ made a deal that's terrifying. Anyone not knowing what they're getting into when interacting with him is *opening a Pandora's Box of Horrors* that will drive them to Insanity, and Bill knows _exactly_ which buttons to push to convince someone to _shake his Hand..._ Even Today, fans of Gravity Falls are speculating _what Form_ Bill Cypher is going to have when *the Axolotl* reincarnates him - and many are looking at *The Owl House* as the World he's come back in. Many believe he's *King, the baby Titan* as a chance for redemption - though there's still _a high possibility_ he could've also become *The Collector:* He has to make Deals to manipulate others; he's forced to interact through the Mindscape; he mostly exists as a Two-Dimensional Entity and has limited time in Three-Dimensional Space; and if he breaks into Reality, his power can destroy - _or rewrite_ - entire Dimensions!

The deal with Gideon is an interesting subject. For one, the fact Bill acts and differently can be taken as Alex and the Crew experimenting having not yet established his true character that we'd get later on, something that a substantial amount of characters experience after all. One the other hand it can equally be taken as Bill intentionally acting as such, subverting his role...playing things differently to play a little into Gideons expectations of him being a Demon while also giving him a shot of what kind of guy he's dealing with. Pulling out the deer teeth was most likely a test by Cipher, the fact Gideon reacted the way he did confirmed to him he had to slow a bit more down akin to Ford which shows in his calmer attitude in the later bits of the episode and his attitude shortly after, becoming more refined and focused on the subject at hand which is of course their bargain. It should also not be forgotten that it is his first deal in Gravity Falls in a long time so of course he'd want to start with a fresh take, if only for his own entertainment or to benefit "business" relationships, take your pick. Lastly the whole "lots of things" imagine montage was in my opinion a deliberate move, including the distorted voice once he realized Gideons desires, tempting him with the promise of more should he ever require it...leading to the small dudes consideration. I mean there was nothing to suggest Gideon would entertain the idea of another deal based on his reactions in the episode yet we see him go so far in the Prison, knowing that Cipher still held promise even if he screwed up a single time. Or idk, that's just my idea on the take, obviously others will have their own, just thought i'd throw it out while im at it for good measure.

I think that Bill is mostly a character that is supposed to be somewhat insane as well as smart. He knows how to make people do what he wants. And if that means he has to be a little helper for a little while, then that means he gets what he wants in the end. He's very smart and makes sure he gets what he wants, no matter who or what is in his way.

Something that kind of occured to me a while back: You know how bullshit it was that Stan's memory came back through "the power of love", arguably ruining the sacrificial aspect right there at the end? Yeah... "I invoke the ancient power that i may return!" said the dream demon. Maybe it really wasn't the bs "friendship and love" hax afterall.

He was unnerving and fun, but nowadays I actually do find him quite scary even if his characterisation is inconsistent throughout the show. Even if he's upfront about his sadism and powers in little ways right in the beginning and really only kicks that off later in season 2, the reason I find him so scary now is the manipulation. Even if it isn't always as successful as one would expect from him, the show makes it pretty clear in my opinion that the main characters are already resistant to him simply because of how they find out about him and Dipper is already skeptical about everything, but he still gets tricked one time and I feel like it's enough to make Bill very intimidating and then how it's implied that he also had to convince Blendin to let him in to be able to possess him and *then* manipulate Mabel into giving him the Rift. The way he speaks and acts, even when he's outright hostile, always makes it seem like he's right and is so simply because he's too powerful for anyone to really do anything about it. I find Bill scary because he's so manipulative, his powers only amplify it. I've had to be around and deal with manipulators since then and so rewatching the show, especially season 2, Bill is really fucking scary to me. He might be inconsistent and messy but that doesn't lessen the effect for me at al. If anything, his early portrayal of weakness, no matter that it wasn't intended to be interpreted as such, could be seen as another form of manipulation to get people's guard down so when he ups the anti, people would be overoverconfident about being able to outsmart him. His later unapologetic sadism just makes it more of an effect for me, that he'd just stopped giving a shit if he was seen for the evil he is because he already has (almost) absolute control over the situation. Sure, it wasn't intended to be seen like this, but that how multiple rewatches have left me to think about it.

I can think of a being who's probably stronger than Bill...maybe even more so than the Collector. Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin (alias the Dark One)
