Boxing used to be on free TV in the latest 70s. I saw Leonard vs Benitez free. Holmes vs Norton free. Boxing was on TV three times a month on Saturdays...times are different with streaming etc.

The internet does offer the ability to watch more boxing, but the quality is key. Some of these promoters still appear intent of getting the next Mayweather Jr: a boring fighter that will sell.

The American boxing is dead they all ducked each other but in the rest of the world it's popping

UK peaked a couple years ago - then Fury beat Wilder and started ruining the HW division by ducking AJ, Zhang, Parker, Hrgovic, Dubois, and only fought Usyk because of the Saudis

@xiv7477 It was AJ who brought boxing back the moment Fury won against Klitschko nobody in the UK or America cared... and Fury ducked the rematch with Klitschko by using peds! It was AJ who was belt collecting and not Wilder (another American) at the time... Wilder is a old remnant of the Klitschko era! If you ask me I'm glad that Usyk saved boxing because Fury is good but not all time great!

@@mossboxing2235 I completely agree that it was AJ (and Eddie Hearn / Matchroom) who put boxing back on the map. Fury was AWOL at that point, although his trilogy with Wilder did later help build put eyeballs back on boxing. And Usyk is a true champion; that guy is ready to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime - a real throwback fighter.

I don't like the "boxing in America is dead because they're playing other sports" There's no alternate universe that had Roy Jones dunking on Jordan or Mike Tyson being an all star quarterback... Fighters are fighters and Americans are spoiled...

Yeah, I never understood that. Baseball, football and hockey were all popular by the 1970s.

Good point. And it certainly can't apply to the smaller fighters that wouldn't be playing those sports anyway..

The reason boxing in trouble in America is because of a certain demographic of Americans and their hatred of anyone who doesn't look like they do. And that includes the fighters who are from that demographic too

The problem with that demographic is that a large % of it doesn't buy subscriptions or PPVs. There are many admissions of this on Twitter.

That's a part of the problem, but IMO the biggest reason is the greed of promoters (and some fighters) and the lack of free-to-air fights. You can't gain new fans unless there are top tier fights that the public can watch for free. Other reasons: a culture of ducking, selfish promoter disputes, email belts (and too many belts), fighters beefing on Twitter but never getting in the ring, American fighters scared to fight outside of their hometown, the list is endless...

I don't think boxing is dead or in trouble. If this was true you guys wouldn't have a boxing podcast. Look at how many boxing podcast on KZfaq? Many! I think boxing is moving ahead and where getting old. Boxing is moving n adapting to the times of today not yesterday.

Biggest problems in boxing today: 1. Lack of free-to-air fights 2. Too many belts / corrupt sanctioning bodies (Hi Mauricio 👋) 3. 'Top' fighters avoiding each other (risk aversion) 4. Promoter feuds preventing fights (PBC = biggest culprit) 5. Promoters putting sh*t fights on PPV 6. Fighter inactivity 7. Twitter beef replacing actual fights (female behavior) 8. American fighters not travelling to fight (unlike Europeans / south Americans) 9. Collapse of network TV 10. Rise of UFC
