I’ve been a Queenslander, mostly Brisbane, all my life. Travelled Australia extensively stayed with friends in most capitals of all the states. I think the further north you travel, the friendlier people become. We are a nation of people who are pretty blunt and we do enjoy “taking the piss” out of people. ❤️ from Q Australia 🇦🇺.

I grew up in Brisbane and, like many of my friends, couldn't wait to leave. 'Boring Brisbane' was its usual nickname in those days. Some friends returned, many didn't. Though I admit it has improved somewhat since then, I still wouldn't visit it at all if I didn't have family there. I did leave at 21 and have lived in diverse places, including London and Melbourne, and only once returned to live whilst I was at university. Other family members have also since moved away, including my parents upon retirement, with only one sibling's family now remaining there. Of course, many people love Brissie and will not relate to my reasons for leaving but, for a start, I find it definitely too hot and humid for half the year. Despite now being a larger city, it still lacks sophistication and a wide range of cultural choices. The arts community does its best but offerings are limited and most international acts and shows do not go to Brisbane. Traffic is appalling, with endless roadworks as the Council never quite catches up with the increasing population. Shopping is also limited mostly to chain stores, as it doesn't yet have the population to support a lot of private retailers. For most Brisbanites, the casual dress code is part of its appeal but I enjoy the chance to dress up at times. Most restaurants will still accept diners wearing only shorts and t-shirts. After years away, I have finally returned to Queensland but NOT Brisbane! Being no longer interested in city life, I am now up the coast a bit, so can drive easily to see family. Summer months are still too hot but I find them more bearable nearer the beach with the sea breezes.

I ❤ Brisbane and I'd have to say it's probably one of the most walkable cities in Australia. Like European cities everything in inner Brisbane is easily reached by foot. In Melbourne for instance you need taxies in order to get about because everything is spread far and wide. In Brisbane everything is fairly close. In terms of nightlife there are literally hundreds of places all within walking distance in the Valley for instance. Brisbane is very concentrated, which is why Traffic can be so bad. Narrow, organic street layouts that favor pedestrians aren't so good for traffic movement and Brisbane does not have the wide sweeping multi-lane 'strodes' that Melbourne or Adelaide do. As an urban planner I'd say one of the hardest things about working in Brisbane is maintaining a balance between Brisbane's traditional laid back culture and and the changes that come with population growth. Maintaining that easy lifestyle is the key to Brisbane's success and what sets it apart from other cities.

But at least Melbourne as the incredible tram system- I absolutely LOVE visiting Melbourne! Even just to get around the CBD is free, say if you're heading from Southern Cross up to the library, or out to the museum, or the Old Gaol or theatres......love 'em! Love that they criss cross around the place so you can pretty much get anywhere. They'll need a somewhat of a smaller tram network in Brisbane once the CRR opens, and they decide to finally make the CBD pedestrian only, given it's hilly.

Than the other Capital cities? Well, except for Darwin. But hot for Australia? Brisbane is merely mild by Australian standards. It may seem odd, but Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, even Canberra and Hobart can get much much hotter in summer than Brisbane. The difference with those other places is you get relief from the heat. Except when we get La Nina weather (which is historically about once or twice a decade) there is usually no let up to Brisbane heat from October to April.

Brisbane is Rugby League at Suncorp Stadium, Cricket at the Gabba, People watching over a coffee in the Queen St Mall, A Ferry Ride, Fireworks on the River, a Coffee and Desert at Mt Cootha, A Meal at Breaky Creek, a Hand or two of Black Jack at the Casino,. Brisbane born and bred. Moved away eight years ago. City had changed too much too quickly. Then there are the crowds, the constant traffic and sound of traffic, the heat and humidity during most of the year which is like living in a sauna, and the air quality isn't great - especially when temperature inversions happen. Now live in a small country town on the tablelands. One traffic light. Air is fresh and clean. Almost no traffic. Brisbane was great when I was growing up, an overgrown country town - now it's just grown too big.

yeah, Perth invested in a smart freeway (its still being upgraded) none of us are really sure why. Luckily I don't think we have had any deaths yet, but the install also started at the start of covid which cut a lot of the road traffic (wfh for the win) so maybe it works okay when the traffic level is lower (because then its more or less off lol)

Lol- I grew up in the Beijke- Peterson corruption era so I'm a bit cynical- Brisbane is just a bloody concrete jungle, the Valley is a no-go zone and even Southbank can be a bit dicey (that may be my grandmother speaking though, she still tells me stories of how dangerous it was in the 50's!!!). At least now we've got some decent in fracture at long last coming online, with the new theatre at QPAC, and (new) Southbank, Queen's Wharf coming and the Cross Liz Purp Line- whoops, I mean Cross River Rail (watching too much Geoff Marshall here). I just wish they'd bloody fix the Bruce though and more decent public transport OUTSIDE their precious bloody 10km radius of the city!!

Brisbane is arguably Australia's most progressive city. Always been pro development and it's shown by the construction of accommodation and office towers in the last decade. 100 story plus skyscrapers. Many with outstanding architecture. Shopping in Queen Street Mall is very good and there's a good range of cafes and restuarants in the CBD. South Bank is brilliant to escape the CBD just across Victoria Bridge, a short few 100 metres to a range of attractions including Art theatres, gardens including the edible one in the Epicurious garden, a ferris wheel and an artificial beach with nice landscaping including a fun park for the kids and more. A State of the art library as well. The Botanic gardens on the edge of the city is great for a break from city life. Large areas of lawn to relax on and like all botanic gardens in Australia its free. Check out the Roma parklands and Mt Cootha BG's in suburban Toowong also. Then the Brisbane Festival in September. Nice mild sunny weather. Held mostly on South Bank and the final night's fireworks display is excellent as barges along the Brisbane river are loaded up with fireworks then set off of buildings as well. The negatives are the 4 months of heat and high humidity. Stifling 23C nights to 34C days. It's oppressive. Traffic is congested but not as bad as Sydney. SE Queensland is the fastest growing part of the country and the population and high density living has stressed the infrastructure but will be helped by the plans mentioned. It will take time though. If you can stand those 2 things, it's the city to be in. Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne are the more conservative cities. The first 2 would be more suitable for Brits regarding culture and be the easiest to progress to due to this fact. Adelaide in particular has a lot of British influence and is the most conservative city of all. Easy to get around. Cheaper to live in and has the best festivals (music, fringe, arts) and beaches. Great botanic gardens and the best education facilities with renown Universities. Beautiful climate for 5 to 7 months and cool to mild for 3 months. Can be cold in June and July though by Australian standards (not by English standards though!!). It just matters how much heat you can bear and how much cold you can deal with. It does get quite cold at night in Brisbane in winter but days are mild and sunny often in the low 20's.

@@Josh-is8it Think I’ve answered that 1. Forgot the casino too. Even if not into gambling will be state of the art complex. $3 and half Billion gets you that. Did you hear about the Sydney nightclub lockdowns? Melbourne led the way for nightlife pre covid. Sydney still can't get it's head about the whole small bars and clubs thing, and Melbourne is the top sport for theatre and the arts. Sports? Melbourne has more big events (Tennis, F1 to name a couple) but Brisbane has more of the sporting codes continuously at a high level. Sydney? NRL and Union, with one decent AFL team. The difference is how passionate Brisbane people are about their sports. Sydney people are more passionate about instagramming being at an event than actually being at the event. Melbourne's top for food too. Sydney pips Brisbane in that regard, and at the very top level Sydney and Melbourne run pretty level, but those next tiers down it's Melbourne all the way. Sydney does have the best beaches though. Hands down.

Brisbane. Delusional. 😮. I’ve been to and or lived in every state capital and Perth is by far the best city in every respect.

Queensland has more people than Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory combined. No matter which way you look at it Queensland is part of the big three states. No matter which way you look at it, South East Queensland is part of the big three urban centres of Australia. No matter which way you look at it, South East Queensland's combined domestic and international tourism is almost equal to Melbourne. No matter which way you look at it, if you consider current airline trends (pre pandemic) South East Queensland will soon be Australia's number 2 tourist destination after Sydney, and Queensland will soon be number 2 state destination after New South Wales. If you don't like the lifestyle in South East Queensland or the attractions we already have, and have planned, you have mental issues. Elderly people consume tea, coffee and bikkies, I don't know why anyone would want to go down to Melbourne to see grey heads do that. Come to Queensland where everyone is young and fun.

Girl in an Aussie accent says 'People are a little bit rude here', then he says if you're not 'used to Australian humour' lol what a load of nonsense he's just making it up as he goes along 🤮
