cool they talk about canadian pianos, because back in the day there some of the best ever made from 1900 to 1920. they used very old trees for the wood. after the depression, they skimped on quality. heintzman were considered the steinway of the north. not many canadian pianos went down to the states because they had so many brands, and good brands. my favorite american brand is chickering. long live the golden era of pianos.

My Upright piano is called a Kaiser. The piano was made in Hamamatsu Japan. On the action frame it says Yamaha. I am told it was made by Yamaha for sale strictly in Japan. The chose a German name because Japanese people associate German names with quality. The person who tunes it told me it is basically a U1 but I do not know if that is true or not. It sounds great. I am not sure if this is considered a stencil piano.

I consider a stencil piano a piano that is build by some manufacturer and sell by someone else who own the trade name. I've seen some sellers simply putting their logo on it and others that design their own piano. For exemple, you buy a Pearl River with Abel Hammer on it or Roslau wire. You can order cheap (price wise) customized piano in China with upgrades. It's rare that I have to disagree but yes Pearl River can make a better piano for someone else. Pearl River doesn't target Steinway market. They target the entry line market and they are aware that they are associated with that. If they want to tackle another market, they buy a brand (Schimmel) and create an new brand (Fridolin Schimmel). Also, by building piano for Steinway, they are perfecting their skill and get access to better ressources. And yes, eventually they are able to produce superior product or equal but for a lower price.

are STEINMAYER PIANOS stencil piano?

So sad the new Baldwins are just a stencil brand of Parsons. At least I believe it’s Parsons who build it. No great Baldwin designers or technicians left. Tragic.

That was pretty confusing to follow. My understanding is that what you’re calling a “stencil” is a generic piano (a la generic drugs) with a brand name stuck on it (unlike drugs, which do not stick their name on the generic).

I can say Alamo Music has a stock of Stencils that they wanna sell.... can't trash fake products, bad for Thier business if they did.
