I’ve looked at a bunch of rural properties and vacant land to buy during my seven years living in Japan. There are tons of gems out there, but I absolutely agree that you need to be willing to put in the effort to integrate into the local community. Between that, and investing in learning Japanese if you don’t already speak it, they will most likely be very welcoming.

This was an informative video and it touches on the finer points of owning a property in Japan, or any other country for that matter. A city home has a different feel and function. A countryside house is another matter altogether. I remember my grandparents living in the countryside and we all used to have so much fun there; plus the locals knew us so there was no fear about our safety. Sadly, i cannot afford to give my children the same experience unless i move back to my home country and renovate the old farms.

If i may be allowed to offer a small bit of criticism: please check the subtitles as there are some inconsistencies. I think overall the subs do justice if the viewer/listener is familiar with Japan and can connect the dots as to what the speaker wanted to say. For example at 7:20 the speaker says the "Meiji Period" though the subs show "Magi". For me and for most others who would be watching/listening, we can understand what it means. My apologies if this was inappropriate.
