Is California Grill the BEST Restaurant at Walt Disney World? Disney's Contemporary Resort

When looking to celebrate a special occasion at Walt Disney World, California Grill is our go-to restaurant. Opening as Top of the World Lounge with the Walt Disney World Resort back in 1971 and located at the top level of Disney's Contemporary Resort, this classic fine dining establishment boosts some of the best views of Magic Kingdom Park. Our experiences with the cuisine have varied but despite this, we've continued to promote this as our favorite Walt Disney World restaurant due to its history, service and atmosphere.
In our opinion, California Grill's eats were at their height prior to the implementation of their prix fix menu mandate. We heard through friends that California Grill had freshened up their offerings a few months back and decided Jay's birthday was the perfect time to see whether this truly is still our favorite restaurant at Walt Disney World.

That's why we enjoy this restaurant as much as we do. Can't beat the history and the views. Hopefully next menu revamp will be kinder to California Grill. We still really enjoy it here and can't wait to come back 🙂.

Happy birthday Jay and congratulations to you can Sam for purchasing your 1st home. I’m so happy and proud of you guys. I loved California Grill when we ate here but I will say Topolino's Terrace is in my top 3 maybe 1.

Our prior experiences at California Grill all had far better cuisine. I always enjoy the nostalgia and history here but it's without a doubt been an afterthought to Disney recently. Staff here are some of the best on property though. Our next restaurants to experience in our series will be Topolino's Terrace and Narcoosee's. Thanks Chris! It's been and still is a lot of work. Can't wait to show you guys around on your next visit 🙂.

Especially given the amount of people in this creator space and how much respect we have for everyone's individual style and take on creating Disney/theme park content. It means a lot our content connects with you because we truly do put our heart into these videos. Also, we really appreciate the Valrhona insight! Happy birthday Jay! We were at CG (which used to be our #1) about 3 weeks ago and were really disappointed. When we dined in October, phenomenal, this time it just not deliver. Quality of filet was really different. I tried the pizza and it was ok, wife got surf and turf sushi- about average. We were however able to request the wontons even though not on menu..its apparently a bar food now. You are required to pay extra charge for them. The bread was service was just sad. The kids steak was horrible and wife's filet was poor quality (compared to past visits). We did end on a high note with the peanut butter dessert. We went to Narcoosies the following evening and it was amazing. Surf n turf was phenomenal. Coosies is now our #1. Hope you enjoyed your birthday!!

The drop in quality here really gets me down. It has such a rich history and prime location. Also, the staff is incredible, some of the best at Disney. I really hope that things turn around here. The Filets on property, as a whole, I think have dropped in quality the past year. I'm not sure if their supplier changed or what happened. We went to Narcoosies about a year ago and loved it. We're hoping to make it back soon for this series. I'll be sure to get the surf and turf if I see it on the menu! Thank you 🙂, it really was a memorable birthday. Despite the slight drop in food quality I still always enjoy my time here.

Thank you! We'd love to do more of them but often feel the vlog style videos we do don't trend as well for us. We actually have another one planned soon though! California Grill's current state of cuisine really is disappointing. Hoping for a positive menu revamp in the future.

Happy Birthday vlog!! Once again love every opening you do on these reviews. Your cali grill video last year is what turned me into a themeparkfoodie fan :). We were able to go to California Grill in October w/our DD and her DH. The venison was on the menu then and it was the star of the meal. I had the filet and sadly it was just poor quality. We did take your advice and had the chocolate torte, the peanut butter torte (and my SIL had the cheese plate...don't Sleep on the cheese plate!). Sad to see the bread service changed... Have you guys tried Citrico's? I need to look back in the reviews. I love your Flying fish video too (hoping to go there this Oct.).. Ok thanks again!

We're so happy California Grill helped you find us! It really disappoints me when I hear and experience how hit or miss the cuisine is here because the staff is top notch and I'm a huge history fan. If I ever see the Venison on the menu again I'll make sure to get it! Hope you guys liked the desserts as much as we did. I(Jay) went to Citrico's years ago but Sam has never been. We're going end of July and we're so excited for it! Flying Fish has been exceptional every time we've gone. Hope you enjoy it 🙂. Thank you for the birthday wishes! @@ThemeParkFoodies The desserts were amazing! Oh and I got the pressed pot coffee (it was yummy). I think I had built it up too much in my head. Everyone loved their meals but me lol. I did get the San Franciso Mai tai and it was tasty lol. On Citrico's... I know you guys love mocktails. My husband is my mocktail tester and he said Citrico's has the best, the Old fashioned Orange Soda float. Again thanks for all your hard disney work :)

Happy B Day brother. Yea Kali grill has gone down over the years. Haven't eaten there in about 2 1/2 years, last time not so good. Although best place in Disney to view the fireworks

What is the deal with the bread service at signature restaurants? First Jiko, now CG? I've actually never been tempted to go to California Grill, so thanks for the confirmation on that instinct :) I might just go sometime for dessert.

There is a serious decline in bread service around WDW. You can order a la carte at the bar & skip the pricey prix fixe!! Thanks so much for watching 😊
