I don't like Joe's arguments but on this one, he hit the nail on the head. These stars we have today are just famous people that the machine likes to present as larger than life. They don't sell albums, just one or two viral songs in an album and that's it. No potential to be remembered as the greats.

No offense to Cardi but she haven’t been in the industry long enough to get that title yet. She only have one album and this is not including her from being on love and hip hop. She haven’t even done enough things yet to reach that stardom. She is a tv personality that turned into a rapper. She wants to be a superstar based off how much she gets paid and she said that herself. Like Joe said, it’s easy to get a brand deal and less music being put out. Cardi is not even in the category of a superstar. Most artist now are not consistent because they worried about their image and who they know. Superstar’s as of today are Beyoncé, Nicki, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, MJ, Whitney Houston, Selena, Aliyah, and Britney Spears. There should be no excuses because the artist I just named all have numerous albums out, they sale out, they have big fan bases, and they didn’t come from popularity. They have real talent. Social media is making it hard to pin point a real super star.

Your consistent music and things you do outside of rap (acting, business deals, etc.) all in rotation makes you a superstar; i.e. Will Smith (back when he was The Fresh Prince and when he went solo), 50 Cent, Nelly, DMX, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne during his prime/run, Drake, Eminem, Nicki, Missy, Lil Kim, Snoop, Diddy to a certain degree, even Bow Wow at one point. These “artists” nowadays are trending more for their drama on social media and in the streets than their so called music

Social media has changed the equation a little bit. To judge whether someone is a superstar or not, you gotta look beyond your circle, race, age group, country, etc. to see if others know that person and what they think of them. It's not enough just to know their name but whether they are known for their music. If we look at this as just a popularity contest then the Kardiashains are 10 times the superstars that your favorite artists are. oh and kim can rap too lol. We have to look at heir discographies. And you have to consider their fame and reputation across the world not just with a younger audience in the US for example. Drake, Jay, Kanye, Nicki, Eminem, etx. are all superstars no question. Then there people who are really good and really famous but just not in the highest tier: Cardi, Travis, Tyler, doja, baby...they not legends
