I use to CB back in the 70's, have not since 1983. Turn on the CB in my area today and it's dead. I've not seen any CB antenna's on any cars or trucks these days and I doubt anyone want's to install them like we use to back in the day. What I did discover is an APP for your phone by Motorola called CB Talk. There are truckers using that app which works great. I could see something like that replacing yesterdays CB technology. If there was more activity on CB I would certainly re-join that movement. I still have my TRAM D201, CPI CP300, Cobra 138 and a Uniden.

I talk on the CB radio everyday AM and Am SSB . It is a lot of fun and if you use one you will be able to understand the lingo like on channel 6 and others. We are a different breed of person and I do not think CB will ever go away. If the government or a enemy takes cell phone towers out it will no make a difference to us we will still be talking saving America.

1:59 Is spanish language "Ven a buscar lo tuyo" "Go find your things" Here in Europe (European Union) AM, FM are allowed to be used (4 watts) SSB is included too (12 watts) I think if in USA FM Will be allowed, It can be a upgrade. But the "diying process" of the CB is caused in my opinion for 3 reasons: 1- No control of FFC: Like the footage you showed, Its like the Far west. If there is no control, It Will be a chaos 2- There is a lack of info about CB: I have read a lot forums about GMRS, and always see the same arguments like: "I a can transmit with more power" "My voice sounds better" "I had a CB radio on my truck and It broke" All this arguments show the ignorance about the CB, if people doesn't know how to configure and tune an antenna or install a CB radio, they Will be unpleased! Other funny thing is, that the GMRS require to pay a license for 10 years and use an Callsign! CB doesn't need this! 3- Lack of FM Mode (Unlike in Europe) To finish this, I think that there are good news that CB radios are being sold again like hot bread and FCC is considering to allow FM Mode. It Will no be a "Traumatic" because there are many "exports" transceivers in USA being used now. I wish the CB radio would not be dead, It probes to be a good Buddy in worst situations (like natural catastrophes) and a good way to make Friends and practice in ham radio before obtaining your license. Thanks for reading this! Greetings from Spain!

Update: Here in the S.F bay area every Friday night they do a check in. They do it simultaneously on KZfaq. In a 120 mile radious about 51 people check in. Another 30 or so on KZfaq. Certainly not like it use to be but there are still a few people out there. Back in 1970's there were 4 base stations within a block of me. Antenna on most cars. When Skip is in today, lots of stations out there. I would say its easier to shoot skip today then back in the 70s. As for FM? Its legal in the U.S but unlikely to be widespread anytime soon. Lots of vintage radios out there without it. The new Antenna hight limit is a joke.

FM may entice some to get back into CB radio. I believe there will be certain regions in the U.S. where it'll become popular. However, with the GMRS licensing fee recently being reduced and scheduled to be further reduced by 1/2 in the near future, I expect more people will prefer that service over CB. Being able to install a smaller antenna and having more than 10x the power at their disposal along with repeaters might seem a lot more beneficial to some, if not most.

I know there are quite a few people jumping on the GRMS bandwagon, but power alone isn't the whole story. GMRS operates on FM which runs close to the ground and is impeded by obstacles. As such, they almost never reach their advertised ranges except under the most ideal conditions which rarely occur in real life. I guess it all depends on what you are using it for. I recently became aware of a modification that can be made to certain Ham radios that allows CB band to be added. This results in a CB with 12 watts of power as opposed to 4 and PEP of 50 watts. Such a radio eliminates the Alleged range advantage of GMRS and in a scenario where the power grid goes down and repeaters are unavailable, such a CB will be superior. Recent analysis of google searches shows over 3 million searches a month for CB info and just over half of that for Ham radio. Far less searches for GMRS. Finally Wolcott Radio, the largest online supplier of radios states that CB orders have tripled in the last year and they are having difficulty keeping items in stock. Perhaps COVID is driving it, but for whatever reason, there is a renewed interest in CB Radio and recent poll of the 3.5 million truckers in America indicates that 90% still use CB daily. That being said having a CB in your vehicle affords you the opportunity to get a lot of traffic in speed trap info as well as a network of truckers you may be able to reach if cell service goes down or you are in a dead zone.

Nice to here Joker man of Cousins CB shop South Carolina in his 1,500 watt custom amp chatting with his cousin. FM is now legal on CB in the US. 6 new FM CB channels are available. 4 watts power 2.5 KHZ spacing. The channels are the former RC aircraft channels. They were moved up to 70 MHZ back around 2000. The first channel is 27.435. Also the antenna height regulations now states the maximum height of an antenna arial must not exceed twenty feet to the base of the antenna from the permanent structure that the antenna is mounted on. To see the new US CB radio regulations just enter part 95 class D amended in your browser and it will bring you right to it with a link to the old Part 95 class D CB radio regulations. The new amended regulations were just posted on Monday September 20, 2021 on the Federal Communications Commission's website, as well as the new GMRS/ Par-46 regulations authorizing the use of APRS beacons except for FRS radio service.

As for the old style CB, I got into it in the late 50's and left for good ca. 1971. To me it had become worthless. It was all about crazy power freaks, oddball channels, and unfriendly cliques. The last couple months I was "on the air" a local CBer came to my house posing as a "good buddy" but he really came to threatened me because I was using a channel his group decided they owned in our area. That was it for me, a fun and useful hobby had gotten too weird.

There was an uptick a couple years prior to the lockdowns. CB isn't dead and doesn't need saving. Also any trucker who says they prefer a phone to a CB on the road is a fool. A damn fool. Probably the kind who get themselves in to 50 car pile ups.

Cellphones replacing CB radio. Yeah right... Cellphones are government controlled and networks can be turned off.Cellphones are an unsafe platform to communicate with when driving. CB is means of communication operated by citizenry. Not so with cell networks. opening an app to communicate while driving versus just picking up a mic and pushing a button. Yeah CB is way more convenient.

It's ticking over I suppose but at the end of the day CB is like betamax/vhs technology. It's gone out with the ark, cellphones and internet have killed it. However, if there are a few cb'ers still in your local area it still can be a laugh. It's much easier to use a virtual CB app on your smartphone - something like zello.
