2 years ago I got my first CCIE Routing and Switching, (after passing through my CCNA and my CCNP) I am currently studying for my second CCIE ("SP track") since I see it necessary to get my CCDE which is my last goal to long term, but being able to automate my tasks with python and ansible has allowed me to streamline my daily tasks and take my work to another level of productivity (something like a Super CCIE: D) I see automation as a necessary skill set in all the aspects of life that allows us to have more time to analyze scenarios that allow us to optimize and have better networks, greetings and many thanks for these videos David, I hope more courses of yours to continue learning network programmability thanks.....

You can never go wrong getting your CCIE. The level of in depth knowledge you can gain from achieving the CCIE is second to none. The problem is the CCIE does not seem to demand as high a salary as it did in years past. While it is always easier said than done. Gaining the right experience, along with certs, can get you paid as much as many CCIE in todays markets. The other debate is that many shops want to see you capable on multiple technologies. So the time getting an IE could get you certified in multiple Cisco paths or other vendors all together. So while you may not be a CCIE level network engineer. You can be multiple NA or NP along with say your VMware or AWS or Palo Alto cert

I would sum up your talks in words as: A well experienced with the deep knowledge CCNP is better of inexperienced and skill less and incompetent CCIE. What is the use of CCIE if one becomes a Sales Person in the end and mess up his career. Isn't hands-on CCNP with deep knowledge and well experienced is better? And I have seen its many of examples. In market, everybody is paid for Hands-on Skills not the fucking idealistic theories and difficult protocols and flowery words. No body cares about it. Every company pays for what you do with your hands i.e. from bottom to Top. Either you are Security Personal or a Manager. Period! So always improve your hands on skills. You will be the winner in the end.

It seems to me that networking is just going through the same process that systems went through with the introduction of powershell. I think it gets blown way out of proportion. Powershell didn't make systems engineers lose their job, it just allowed them to use their time for better stuff. Doesn't sound like anyone expects us to become full-stack software engineers, we just need to learn enough to use these new networking libraries to automate boring tasks, as far as I can tell.

There was a lot of hype around SDN that it would change everything in networking. That has been reduced to automation now in a lot of cases. I think network engineers that learn network automation will have many more opportunities in future than those that don't.

The issue with CCIE is it is convoluted to get, having to fly somewhere, get hotels, rental cars, etc to do this practice exam. It's quite costly and if you fail it can be a considerable amount of money down the drain. I dont think the leverage the CCIE gives you in the market (in terms of pay and ease of getting a job) matches the costs associated with getting it. You can learn all the content online without having to spend alot of money to go do the practical.

Really liked this David. I guess it depends on the person. I’m thinking for me maybe CCNP after ICND2 then maybe more Python for networking and some Devnet stuff in the AWS realm. It’s funny because I was thinking of all this the other day, trying to plot this stuff out. I’m already enrolled in some of your GNS3 and Packet Tracer courses on Udemy. Have Virl at work.

David we need to know how CCIE guys practice labs whether it is hardware or emulator and what's the advice from CCIE guys when it comes about preparing a lab at home?
@daniellxia
@daniellxia 5 жыл бұрын
On simulator for sure. Even the lab exam itself is based on simulator. Search for webiou. That's the cisco internal tool used in ccie lab exam, which is basically native Cisco IOS compiled on Unix. If you cannot get your hands on webiou, then use GNS3, which is a free MIPS emulator and can load real cisco IOS images.

David sir : I want your valuable suggestion (even some kind of guideline) in my life . I have almost 6 years of experience in IT in which 3 years as network support engineer and 3 years as IT engineer. My job is limited to mostly LAN side of networking due to mid-size organization. Even i have designed & successfully implemented the network (5 floored building) of another branch of my organization and it's working fine right now But everything was limited to almost installing switches,Crimping,installing face plate, troubleshooting network , configuring wireless access point(Wi-Fi),servers,fingerprint scanners,network printers etcs ...... I have studied CCNA, CCNP Switch,( CCNP Route in progress),CCNA security and practicing almost everything at GNS3 whatever is possible in GNS3 from last 4-5 years but i don't have experience at real routers in last 3 years. Kindly suggest me what to do from today. ? What to do next ? i am waiting a response from you sir, i am very confuse right now.
